FASA may be (more or less) gone but MechWarrior lives on. Catalyst Game Labs is offering closed beta keys for MechWarrior Tactics along limited posters of MechWarrior Online/Tactics for those who visit their booth at Gen Con.
Managing developer of Catalyst Game Labs Randall N. Bills stated:
I love every opportunity to play in the BattleTech/MechWarrior universe, whether it’s the board game, fiction or computer games. Not only are both of these games shaping up to be a fan’s dream-come-true, but I’m lucky enough to be working directly with directly with Infinite Game Publishing on these games. In all my years of dealing with various computer games set within this universe, I’ve never seen so much passion, or so much desire to pay the appropriate respect to where it all started. It’s simply a fantastic time to be a fan!
Head on over to Booth 1073 at Gen Con for a free poster and avail the closed beta keys now.

Call of Duty Elite has 12 million subscriptions and out of that 2.3 million people actually pay for it. The service was created with an intent to find new alternate revenue streams and it has been a successful venture for Activision, when you take into account that this service was announced last year along with Modern Warfare 2.
The service offers gamers 20+ new multiplayer maps, Special Ops missions and more before normal peasants. It also offers stat tracking and other cool features which is really helpful if you are into creating specialized videos for Youtube.
The data was announced during Activision financials today, where the company posted a $1 billion revenue slightly down from last year.
We are very excited to have announced our expanded investment in China through Activision Publishing’s agreement with Tencent to bring the Call of Duty franchise to the Chinese market,” Bobby Kotick said at the investor call.
“For the first six months, we had the top three best-selling games in North America and Europe with Activision Publishing’s Skylanders Spyro’s Adventures and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and Blizzard Entertainment’s record setting Diablo III.”
Diablo 3 has sold 8.8 million copies so far, along with 1.2 million players who got the game due to owning a World of Warcraft subscription. There are 9 million WoW subscribers now down by a whopping 1 million from last quarter.
Thanks IGNfor Elite stats.

For the past few years the DotA/MOBA genre has been blooming. League of Legends, with its amazing free-to-play success, and micro-transaction goodies, Heroes of Newerth for the more hardcore DotA players, and finally the upcoming true sequel to DotA, DotA 2. Now we have a new beast in the field and its name is Smite.
Developed by Hi-Rez Studios, Smite plans to reinvent the DotA genre with its 3rd person style gameplay. Smite is very similar to League of Legends, while that’s not necessarily a bad thing, it also means that it needs to impress on its own.
Smite does a lot of things right, especially the feel of DotA. Newcomer or not, this feels, and plays like any other DotA game, and the only main difference is the 3rd person view. You would think that the third person view would turn this game into a hack-n-slash, but in reality it does not, and that’s a good thing. The rules are exactly the same as in any other DotA game, with the exception of a few things. The last-hit on enemy minions grants you more gold; you have a shop where you buy items in order to beef up your God; you still attack, and defend towers.
The only biggest difference with Smite as far as gameplay mechanics goes, is the last building that you attack in order to win. Rather it being a building, it’s actually a Minotaur statue that becomes alive. The Minotaur starts to defend himself from being destroyed by the enemy gods. Trying to tackle the Minotaur on your own is not a very smart thing to do as it does a lot of damage, but a group of Gods with a decent tank can take it down pretty quickly. This new gameplay mechanic and the 3rd person view makes Smite truly unique and actually different from other DotA games, while still staying true to the genre.
The Gods are really cool in Smite; each God is aligned with a certain pantheon. There are Greek Gods such as Zeus, Artemis, and Hades. Egyptian Gods like Bastet, and Anubis. Norse, Hindu, and Chinese pantheons are also included with their own gods. One of my favorite Gods is Ymir and Odin from the Norse mythology – both are physical melee attack based that can be tanks. Each God has their own theme/playstyle, for example Ymir is like a frost giant. His a melee God with powerful ablities where he can freeze his enemies with his breath, create a line of ice shards on the floor to damage enemies, create a ice wall in front of enemies to block their escape, or behind him to save himself from oncoming enemies. His most powerful ability is when he creates a floor of ice around him to slow down enemies, while at the same time explodes ice shards from himself and does major 360 degree damage to everyone.
However, Smite is not without its issues either. The character art and environments look great, but sometimes there seems to be inconsistency within the art-style combined. All the Gods look very good, but when you start to look at the game as a whole, there seems to be some sort of gap between the Gods and the environments, and it seemed a bit weird to me. In every other DotA game that I played, the art-style was always consistent and it never threw me off. Hopefully over the course of the beta and post-launch, the art will start improving over a period of time.
Smite plans to follow the same path as League of Legends did with micro-transaction. You can either unlock Gods by playing the game and earning Favor from leveling up, or you can spend real-life money on Gems to buy Gods. Skins can only be bought with Gems, and Gems can only be bought with real-life money. League of Legends does exact the same thing. Hi-Rez Studios plans to add more Gods, features, and skins over the course of the Beta and post-launch. The big question remains, will Smite be able to get in the arena ring along with Heroes of Newerth, DotA 2, League of Legends, and still stand on it’s own? Or will it be burned, and destroyed by its competitors? Only time will tell, but so far I think what the beta has showed me is that it has good potential.

Shinji Mikami’s Resident Evil 4 is the best horror game ever made; strictly my opinion, but it’s a critical success and an all-time classic. Capcom wants Resident Evil 6 to be more accessible so they are trying to cater to different crowds by adding a lot of features to attract them. There are three separate storyline with different style of design – Action, horror and melee.
“As you said, RE4 is a critically acclaimed game and there is always the pressure to live up to that. It was very well-recieved. But then if you look at RE5 it was actually our biggest Resident Evil game ever. So in that sense we were able to get the game into the hands of more players out there – probably a lot of new players as well,” Capcom’s developers echoed in an interview with AusGamers.
“So there’s a lot of expectation from fans of both games really, so we’ve tried to listen to the feedback about what people liked about [Resident Evil] 4, and what they liked about 5, and follow up on that and try and incorporate that into the production of Resident Evil 6 and make something that really is appealing to all the fans.”

Ubisoft recently announced that Anno 2070: Deep Ocean, an add-on to the original, will release on October 4th, 2012.
The game has seen quite a large degree of success, selling over 5 million copies worldwide on it’s first run, making it one of their best-selling franchises.
The press release details some of the new features in depth:
The focus of Anno 2070: Deep Ocean is a new faction called the Techs. Thanks to the new Genius population class, the Techs are able to expand further into the deep ocean. By experimenting with a new energy source called the geothermal power plant, the player will be able to build massive production facilities below the sea surface and might even secure one of mankind’s most important needs: Limitless energy supply. Energy transmitters will allow transporting energy between islands while the player can build the impressive new Tech Monument as well as new buildings and decorations to make cities even more beautiful.
Other new features include 150 new quests, natural disasters and co-op play.

Ever since Metal Gear Solid 5 was announced back in 2012, Hideo Kojima made it clear that he is handling mature, dark and taboo themes in The Phantom Pain. These dark themes were strongly touched upon in Ground Zeroes, the prologue to The Phantom Pain. This resulted into a bit of controversy which led many to believe that Kojima will tone them down in The Phantom Pain.
However in a recent interview conducted by GamingBolt, Konami’s community manger Robert Allen Peeler has revealed that there have been no changes in the themes and The Phantom Pain will resemble the tone of Ground Zeroes.
“The story resembles the tone and intrigue that was present in Ground Zeroes. Remember, this is a story of revenge, where Snake, Kaz and their new crew of Diamond Dog mercenaries are eager to take back what they lost at the end of the events on Camp Omega. Characters like Skullface and Quiet likewise add new elements in the story that detail the Metal Gear universe in new and unexpected ways,” Robert said to GamingBolt.
The Phantom Pain will deal with several controversial themes such as torturing women, child soldiers and what not. You can read our full interview with Robert here. The game comes out on September 1st for the PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3.

Metal Gear Solid 5 Will Feature Some of The Best Boss Battles In The Series, Has Plenty of Cutscenes
If there is one thing we don’t know much about Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, it’s the boss battles. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater arguably had the boss fights in the series. So will the boss fights in The Phantom Pain surpass the ones we fought in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater?
Konami’s Robert Allen Peeler believes that the boss fights in The Phantom Pain will be one of the best in the series. “My personal feeling is that the “boss moments” in The Phantom Pain are some of the best in the series, but I encourage you to try them out yourself come 9/1 and weigh in!,” he said to GamingBolt.
Given that the game is now open world, some players are worried that the trademark lengthy cutscenes have been shortened. Robert confirmed to GamingBolt that although the custscenes have been paced according to the level design, the game will still feature plenty of them.
“There are plenty of dramatic and amazing cutscenes throughout the game. You are also correct though that the open world design has created new ways to tell stories in the game, including breathtaking moments that are interwoven within the gameplay itself. Also the traditional codec format has been replaced in favour of a radio conversation system using the iDroid and your guides on base, Kaz Miller and Ocelot.”
“Finally, while engaging enemies in the field, or simply planning your next move aboard the ACC high above the ground, Snake can listen to different cassette tapes that either contain 80’s era music or further details about the world around you,” Robert explained.
Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain launches next week. For more, read our full interview with Robert here.

Satoru Iwata has mentioned that he is not worried about Sony and Microsoft producing significantly more powerful consoles and he has revealed that the next-gen consoles could be revealed in 2013.
“Even when we were going to launch the Wii system, there were a lot of voice saying ‘Nintendo should stop making hardware’,” Iwata told Gamasutra.
“The reasoning behind that was Nintendo would not have any chance against Microsoft and Sony. The fact of the matter was: I did not think Nintendo should compete against these companies with the same message and same entertainment options for people.
“We have not changed our strategy,” he added. “In other words, we just do not care what kind of ‘more beef’ console Microsoft and Sony might produce in 2013. Our focus is on how we can make our new console different than [others].”

There was a time when id Software, creators of Rage (who also worked on some other games. “Doom” or “Quake” they seem to be called), never had to work hard to create publicity. Nonetheless, at QuakeCon 2012, they’ve outright gone ahead and started the hype wagon.
The company tweeted the following from it’s official Twitter page:
Going to QuakeCon? We’ll be revealing the revival of a much-loved classic PC shooter at the show. What could it be?
Speculations start with Doom 4, which has been in development for a while now and seen no real news in the past few years. But for what it’s worth, it’d be great to see id Software come completely out of left-field and announce the revival of Commander Keen.
QuakeCon 2012 kicks off on August 2nd and concludes midnight on August 5th. The convention will see the likes of Arkane Studios’ Dishonored and id’s Doom 3 BFG Edition playable to attendees.

EA has revealed that they added co-op to Dead Space 3 because people found the previous games too scary, and playing with a friend was the logical evolution for the series.
“We were doing research coming out of Dead Space 1 and 2 and we’re really proud of those products. We received feedback to understand how we can take the game out to even more consumers,” EA games boss Laura Bailey said to MCV.
“We were hearing feedback that they love the thriller game, but it was pretty scary, and the obvious next step was that they wanted to play with someone. So we introduced co-op into the game.
“The horror of Dead Space is still all there. It’s still true to its roots and no less scary, but people felt far more comfortable playing it with someone else than they did doing it on their own.
“Personally, I would rather go to scary movie with my husband rather than sit at home with the lights out watching one on my own. We’re looking for that to reach out to consumers that perhaps were not open to Dead Space 1 and 2.”

People hate Ubisoft’s DRM, and according to a latest finding which suggests that their UPlay service may potentially contain a rootkit, they could get into serious trouble. It is mentioned that the DRM allows anyone to access the PC through a vulnerability.
It’s actually a browser plugin that enables outsiders to enter your PC and cause havoc. These are the games that have these vulnerability. Ubisoft had no intention to maliciously get your information, but when you implement such a DRM, these are the side-effects that usually happens.
This vulnerability was found by a Google information security engineer Tavis Ormandy. You can disable the UPlay plugin from your browser to stay risk free, so please do not panic.

Capcom has announced its financial results for Q1 2013 and it’s quite positive for them, expect for Dragon’s Dogma. The game sold favorably in Japan according to the publisher, but struggled in the western markets. It did 1.02 million worldwide, which is pretty decent considering the overall projected figures was 1.5 million.
“In flagship Digital Contents business, “Dragon’s Dogma” which is the first large-scale open world game for Capcom, set a new record in Japan for sales volume of an entirely new brand in its first week for releases during the past decade and consequently, worldwide shipments have surpassed one million,” the publisher revealed.
“Net sales increased to 18,620 million yen (up 55.8% from the previous year). As for profits, operating income increased to 2,669 million yen (up 244.4 % from the previous year), and ordinary income increased to 2,209 million yen (up 304.5 % from the previous year). Net income for the current period increased to 1,320 million yen (up 290.2 % from the previous year).”
Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City sold 2.1 million units, up from 1.7 million units from the last quarter.

We have this week’s UK charts for you, and no one expected Lego Batman 2 to be dethroned but it has happened, and by a game which currently seems to be really popular for obvious reasons. London 2012: The Official Videogame has taken the top spot this month. You can check out our review here.
Mario & Sonic London 2012 Olympic Games has taken the no. 3 spot, followed by Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier. Batman: Arkham City takes the no. 5 spot which is quite interesting and could be because of The Dark Knight Rises movie.
“There were also 4 new 3DS software titles launched this week of which 2 are Nintendo first party, also launched on Saturday 28th (New Art Academy & Freakyforms). However, it is only Nintendo’s ‘Pokemon Conquest’ on DS that makes the Top 40, in at No17 – the Pokemon brand is currently the 10th biggest unit shifter of all videogame brands tracked over the last 15 years,” reads the post on UKIE.
“For the record, the only new 3DS title to make the 3DS Top 20 was ‘New Art Academy’ at No9, one of the few titles that are exempt from PEGI ratings.”

Test Drive: Ferrari Racing Legends is the latest release by Rombax Games into the Test Drive franchise dating back to 1987. I tend to find most driving games fall into 2 categories; Arcade, where driving tends to be non-realistic with heavy drifting, boost/turbo with insane speeds. The other category, which is where this game falls into, is Simulation where the game tries to be as realistic to real world driving experiences as possible. In their own rights, if done well they can be fun and exciting, however in a sea of racing games, TD:FRL does not stand out as a top contender. If anything this game just plays it safe.
If the main focus of this game was to have a great representation of all Ferrari vehicles, then job well done. All exteriors and interiors look fantastic. You can even choose between 33 colors in quick matches. As with any game each vehicle drives differently, but there’s no stats given on any car other than speed. In a game where it’s all about the cars, it would have also been nice to have a feature where you buy the cars and put them in a garage. The closest form to this is that you can select a vehicle and then spin around it in the showcase mode. It’s limited though and you can’t change the distance of the camera, open the doors, or even read some cool info about the selected vehicle. Profile stats only mention the car driven the most outside of career mode, as well as overall times for driving, including career, but only races that have been won. If you are disqualified, came in last or just didn’t meet the objective of the race, those times are not included, making you feel like you didn’t play much of the game.
Multiplayer equates to racing with friends or other online players only, but offers nothing more than what is already offered through career mode. You can create a match online or join one. I felt overall the options were rather limited. Although I wasn’t completely interested in driving a Ferrari in the snow, it wasn’t an option. I would have settled for rain, but that wasn’t an option for weather either. The only options for weather were sunny or overcast, morning, noon or evening. Now I know most Ferrari owners wouldn’t take their cars out in bad conditions, but why not in a game?
The meat of this game comes down to the career mode which is spilt into golden, silver and modern age and there are over 50 races per mode except modern, where it’s over 100. So you get your money’s worth there. I particularly liked when races in the golden age started in black and white, grainy, scratched film and faded into color, as well as the silver age, where races started in sepia tone to color. As with the cars, the tracks look good too and the art team really made everything visually appealing, if not static. The story for one race was that I was driving a prototype for a private party, yet the track had the stands full and people around the corners holding national flags. The gameplay also seems lack luster at best.
The control scheme is so generic there isn’t even a tutorial level to learn the game mechanics. Although we don’t need our hand held in every game it also felt like there was no real thought into how to improve the feel of the game. There are only so many times you can race around the same few tracks and have fun. The AI/other vehicles are unintelligent and you need to avoid them like the plague. If they tap you, you will lose complete control of your vehicle and may force you to use the dreaded reverse gear. It takes so long to get into reverse, you might as well restart the race. I also found that auto shifting would linger on red lines far too long and hinder your success for good lap times.
Grass is far worse than the AI and need to be avoided even more so. Not only because of the certainty of losing control, but also because if you cut a corner or crash the game thinks you’re cheating. If this happens you get penalized by disqualifying the track time, which could suck if you’re only on the course to complete track times. If you cut a corner or go off track 3 times, you get disqualified from the race. This could mean that if you get thrown from the track by AI, you can be disqualified because the game thinks you’re cutting a corner. It seemed rather harsh, but was nowhere close to the epic fail of ending a qualifying run.
In a qualifying race, you have to complete a lap in under a designated time. You are offered ample laps to complete the task and usually I found myself completing the time in either the first or second lap. Once you’ve completed the time the announcer will tell you to come back to the pits, although he really means you have to go another lap since the entrance to the pit is before the finish line. If you turn around and head back to the pits, you have 5 seconds to turn around and go the correct direction. If you fail to turn around, you get disqualified, even if you beat the time given for the lap.
Considering half the races are qualifying laps, you’ll be wasting a lot of time because you can’t just end the race after completing the designated time. You also can’t just end the race from the menu. The menu only gives the option during the qualifying run to resume or quit. After the race the menu is set to restart the race, unless you change it to go to the next race. Each race is also prefaced with a wall of text. If you have enough time to read it all, they offer a cool story, but again with no frills. There could easily have been a cut scene or something interesting to push a story instead of a wall of text. It just felt like the game was unpolished, or the developers weren’t quite sure if the game should have been a DLC or full blown game.
Overall Test Drive Ferrari Legends is a good game. It’s not broken and unplayable, but the game really doesn’t offer anything that you can’t get with any other simulation. If the perk here is that you can play every Ferrari car that hasn’t been offered in other games, it doesn’t feel worth it. It just feels like the same race with a different skin on you vehicle which is nothing more than a DLC. The game is a bare bones driving simulation that offers no real incentives for completion, and at best is repetitive with solely focusing on racing on closed circuits. If you’re into simulation racing and Ferraris, this is your game.
This game was reviewed on the Xbox 360.
THE GOOD
Solid graphics with highly detailed vehicles.
THE BAD
Quirky gameplay mechanics, walls of text, and repetitive racing
Final Verdict
In a sea of simulation racing games, Ferrari Racing Legends barely qualifies the lap.

Who’s excited for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn? It would’ve been odd, a long time ago, to profess any kind of interest towards arguably one of the weakest MMOs of all time from a major company and franchise.
However, Square-Enix is hell-bent on rising above the hate, and making Final Fantasy XIV Part 2 a success. In fact, they’ve brought out a list of changes to existing features.
These include: Goobbue Mounts, guild marks, achievements (Battles, Quests, Seasonal Events, Dungeons, and Exploration), replayable cutscenes, and character histories.
Many features related to the above have either been removed, modified, tweaked or simply renovated. Check out the full list of changes here.
And who knows? This might be only the beginning. One thing is for sure, though – Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is earning it’s hype this time around. It will see release some time between late 2012 and early 2013 for PC and Playstation 3.

Treyarch has responded to questions asked by it’s followers on Twitter. A follower asked if you can “change the storyline by the choices you make”.
Yes…One way we are doing this is through Strike Force levels, which are new to Call of Duty and introduce, non-linear/sandbox-style gameplay to the single-player storyline for the first time.
This is how they work – at several points, the head of special forces will address you and let you know that a conflict has arisen (a “proxy war,” happening parallel to the main storyline) and that you need to handle it. Check out these new screeshots from Darksiders II. This game is published by THQ on PC, PS3 and X360.
It doesn’t matter how many games I see them in, skill trees are always a good thing. Fact. Not exactly original, but it could be a good fit for the series all the same.

Xenoblade Chronicles will not be the only major Wii U game that will be getting bundled with the console this year, as Nintendo today unveiled the Super Mario Maker bundle. The bundle, which includes the 32 GB ‘Deluxe’ console, as well as a digital copy of the game, will be exclusive to Walmart in North America.
In addition to the console and the game, the new bundle will also include an Idea Book. As the name suggests, it will be filled with tips and inspiration for creating custom Mario levels; finally, the bundle will also come with the 30th Anniversary Modern Color Mario Amiibo included in the pack. The entire bundle will cost $299, meaning it will be the same price as any other configuration of the Wii U- if you are one of those people who have been waiting for Super Mario Maker to jump on board the Wii U train, this is not a half bad deal.
Super Mario Maker itself launches in North America on September 11. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage and information.

Blizzard Entertainment could revisit its decision to only have Seasons on the PC version of Diablo 3, effectively bringing it to the PS4 and Xbox One. For Diablo 3 players, Seasons allows a new way to experience the game while offering unique drops and leaderboards.
Speaking to IGN, senior game producer Rob Foote said that with “the way [consoles are] set up,” some features end up inherently different. For instance, leaderboards may work differently while co-op play is better on consoles. However, at the end of the day, it isn’t all about the leaderboards when it comes to Seasons.
“Sometimes Seasons aren’t really about the leaderboard, but having a fresh start, experiencing the game again and feeling like you’re part of a larger community than yourself where the excitement around Diablo is there. So I think maybe that’s something we need to re-evaluate again. We’ll probably go back and revisit that decision.”
Blizzard is also working on patch 2.3.0 for Diablo 3 which adds a new zone, better crafting mechanics and a new feature that allows players to extract and equip different perks from Legendaries.

He further added that, “At last I’ve got my wish!! I’m sure that it will make you happy.” Not much other information – including what time and which day the news would be coming but given the popularity of PAX Prime, it isn’t likely to be buried either.
PAX Prime takes place on August 28th to 31st and will also be host to, among other things, news from Square Enix regarding Final Fantasy 15. Stay tuned for more information on the event as the weekend approaches.

Ever since Guerrilla Games showed off Horizon: Zero Dawn, an open world action RPG that takes place in a post-apocalyptic scenario, there have been comparisons to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and even The Elder Scrolls when it comes to the nature of its RPG elements.
Speaking to GamesRadar, studio co-founder and managing director Hermen Hulst said it’s something in between the action of games like Assassin’s Creed and the likes of Elder Scrolls.
“I guess you’re wondering where we are on that spectrum of, on the one side more action-orientated games like Assassin’s Creed, and on the other hand you have your Elder Scrolls and these kinds of series. I think we’re in-between. We have elements in both directions, and that probably puts us somewhere in between.”
At this point it’s “really difficult” to talk about the exact role-playing elements of the game without showcasing more. “Once we have something to show we’ll talk about it in more detail.”
Hulst also talked about how the idea for Horizon came about, with the company fielding about 35 to 40 IP pitches from its employees. “We looked at certain trends in them and certain core elements, and we decided to take some of that forward into a prototyping stage. We actually, at that point, still took a couple of concepts further, but the Horizon concept was, even from very early on, already appealing to all of us and so we decided to concentrate on that.”
Horizon: Zero Dawn is currently set to release in 2016 for PS4.

People can forget all their values and humanity when it comes to the question of pure survival. We’ve seen it happen before where even eating worms is an option for some precious protein. Just make that mental image in your mind because what you’re going to see in Telltale’s latest episode in The Walking Dead season will pale in comparison to eating worms for survival.
Well that’s a bit extreme, so yeah, what I’m trying to say here is that Episode 2 titled ‘Starved for Help’ raises the bar completely and provides an intriguing experience. And its a bit gross, too.
But in a way, this fantastic episode will test Lee and his gang, or whatever is left of them, by throwing certain scenarios that will not only make your stomach churn but also force you to make some tough decisions. There’s never a single dull moment here, unlike episode 1 where the pacing was a bit uneven.
Telltale have crafted this episode intelligently, where not only will you arrive at a satisfying conclusion, but will also be faced with some uncertainty about the future that will keep you anticipating for the next episode.
The episode starts off with a bang with Lee and his friend Mark, search for food and hack a zombie in the process. No, no, they won’t eat that. You always hack any zombie you see, because that’s the golden rule of survival in a zombie infested area, or shoot them. However, that could be unproductive as it would just attract other zombies.
Scratch that off the survival list, but only to be used during an emergency where you are surrounded. Also another vital lesson, this time from Telltale – try to chop of hands or legs of a trapped person instead of trying to figure out a way to free him by non-lethal means. Time, you see, is very vital. Yes, you get to make that decision in this episode, and unfortunately for me, uh, I couldn’t chop off the legs in time resulting in the dude getting eaten and converted by the zombies.
That was pretty sad in retrospect, and it is what you will be facing in this game. Telltale has turned that knob fully, and have crafted an engaging episode which is well worth the asking price, unless you already own the season pack.
The basic premise of the plot revolves over food, and with a sprinkle of bandits, which no doubt we will be seeing more of in the next episode. The entire second episode can be finished in one sitting and will take, say, 2-3 hours to complete. Of course, there’s no replayability here, considering it’s a plot heavy game or interactive drama – whichever definition you see fit.
Season pass owners get this for free, and those who don’t own it and are interested in playing it, should give it a shot because the experience it provides justifies the cost, which is quite cheap by today’s standards.
This game was reviewed on the PC.
THE GOOD
Intriguing story. Pacing is really good. Some tough decisions given to the players. It's the best episode so far in the five episode season.
THE BAD
Less player input. Lacking replayability.
Final Verdict
Season pass owners get this for free, and those who don't own it and are interested in playing it, should give it a shot because the experience it provides justifies the cost, which is quite cheap by today's standards.

Resident Evil 6 has plenty of locations for players to explore, and there are three campaigns, each almost as big asthe Resident Evil 5 campaign. You must have already played the demo where Capcom gave a taste of how each campaign will play out and how it will be unique to each characters, but enough of all that, there has been a massive leak which shows almost all locations in the game.
Spoilers obviously, but damn, do they look good! The demo wasn’t an accurate indicator of how large this game is. If you are prepared to be spoiled, then go ahead and take a look, it’s totally worth it. Borderlands 2 PC will support modding and an SDK is in development too, according to Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford.
While speaking at Rezzedhe revealed a lot of things about how they didn’t have enough budget to spend on the first game, but considering the stellar sales of the game, they can make its sequel to the best of their abilities. One of them was releasing mod tools for the Borderlands, which wasn’t possible, but for its sequel its a reality.
“There was a moment after Borderlands shipped where we thought about releasing an official SDK,” said Pitchford, “but we found that most of what we would be able to do, was already accomplished by the gaming community,” he said.
“The best thing we could do for the community was get to work on Borderlands 2. Imagine if we’d spend a year working on an SDK for BL2.”
The game will be released this year for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Valhalla Studios may not have found a publisher for Tomonobu Itagaki’s Devil’s Third – his first new title away from Tecmo – but that doesn’t mean they aren’t marching ahead with franchising it.
In addition to the home console and PC versions, we at Valhalla Game Studios intend to bring the Devil’s Third universe to a wide range of digital devices. We are also looking beyond the boundaries of video games and plan to work with other various forms of media, including manga, novels, animation and film, to create a blockbuster franchise.
It sounds like a good idea in theory. Then again, most games were often enjoyable, memorable and, well, released before they received adaptations and what have you. Perhaps they’re jumping the gun a little too early with these plans?
Devil’s Third is currently nearing completion and will be playable on XBox 360, PC and Playstation 3.

Call of Duty players will remember the Nuketown map from Black Ops, which is re-imagined and headed to its sequel as Nuketown 2025, however, even though the map design and the general visuals were off putting to many, the map ended up being incredibly successful.
“I think it’s a little bit of all of those ‘variables’. It was sort of the perfect storm of, just, magic – all the things that came together and made it happen,” Treyarch’s Bunting said in a podcastwith Dan Amrich.
“It was imperative to create a map where players would constantly be colliding with one another and finding themselves in gunfights quickly.
He added: “kind of like all of the core fundamentals of level design refined down to simplicity with no fluff, and then throw in on top of that the easter eggs and campiness to it. Of course, that makes it fun.”

Speaking to VG247 earlier, Ubisoft’s Maxime Béland said that as far as Conviction on the PS3 goes, they will have to wait and see.
The creative director at the developer HQ said, Microsoft “had been wonderful” in supporting the game for the Xbox 360. “We’ll have to see what decisions are made by Ubisoft’s management in the future,” he said. “The decision for Conviction was purely a business move. Microsoft have been wonderful in their support for Conviction.”
Since the game was announced, Ubisoft has made numerous claims that the game would be Xbox 360 and PC exclusive only. However, a CV spotted recently seems to be on the contrary;
The information has since been removed from the sitewhere it was spotted.

Update: It’s fake arghhh. Apparently it’s just an expected announcements list.
This time it seems pretty real folks, as T3 have spotted a Half-Life 3 listing on GamesCom product list. The list shows a bunch of games that is going to be showcased at the event this year starting from Capcom’s presentation today.
You can check out the listing hereand it seems totally legit this time. There are plenty of games and it doesn’t look like a typo considering no one would be stupid enough to put that unless it’s true. This is an official document.
Half-Life 2 was released in 2004 followed by a bunch of episodes, and that elusive sequel to one of the most anticipated games of all time is yet to be revealed, but gamers don’t have to wait too long it seems. Will GamesCom be the event where this mammoth game is finally announced? Only time will tell.
Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more news and info, as we bring you everything live.
Thanks, T3.

The original Bioshock was a great game in every sense. The primary reason being that it borrowed several game play mechanics from role playing games and had an amazing plot to keep the player involved. So does the sequel get any better? Read on to know the verdict. Let’s talk about the story first. One of the major reasons behind Bioshock’s success was the strong plot lines and I am glad to say that the story in the sequel is pretty much solid as well. The game takes place eight years after the events of Bioshock, but this time around you will be controlling Big Daddy himself. At the start of the game you will be introduced to your daughter, one of the little sisters. But eventually things start going bad. Sofia Lamb, the new leader of Rapture kidnaps the Little Sister. Big Daddy who is actually subject delta is hypnotized by Lamb to kill himself. Ten years later, Subject Delta is revived with the help of the vital chamber and immediately gets psychokinetic signals from the Little Sister, his daughter: Eleanor. Rapture who is already under war waged between the splicers and the Lamb’s army of Big Daddies gives the opportunity for Subject Delta to rescue his daughter and ultimately bring the destruction of Rapture. Once again, the story is told via a number of radio messages and there are no cutscenes unlike other games which heavily depend on them for storytelling. Overall the plot is great but is not required to be understood by the player because there are so many amazing game play elements to be found in the game.
The world of Rapture is amazing!
Just like the original the heart of the game play is combat. You will have a great arsenal of weapons and amazing variety of plasmids this time around. I am glad to say that 2K Marin developed new weapons for sequel instead of just recycling the amazing weaponry the team had for the original. My personal favorite was the Drill. It’s powerful enough to take out splicers and competitive enough to stand against the powerful Big Daddies that you will face in the game. You can swing your Drill or “drill” through enemies and obstacles. One of the standout weapons in the game is the Spear Gun. The good thing about this weapon is that when you shoot this at your enemy, it will die on the spot and will cling on the wall and you can get the spear back just by pressing the corresponding button. It’s a good option since you don’t want to spend too much cash on the ammo. Other guns which are included in the game are the Launcher, Shotgun and the Rivet Gun. All of these weapons can be upgraded for more ammo clips and damage. Hacking also makes a return in the sequel but only in a different way to do to the same thing. This time you will be shown a meter and you have to press the button in the right area. If you miss it, you will lose some part of your health. Plasmids make a return too. However there is nothing new as almost all of the plasmids are derived from the original.
Drilling holes through enemies is a ton of fun
However thzy are a ton of fun to use. Plasmids like Insect Swarm and Incinerate were amazing and never got old on me. One new mechanics that I really liked is that you can use both the plasmids and your guns together. Just like the weapons, plasmids are also upgradable in the game. Gene Tonic are an added feature in the game which will give the Big Daddy special features like the player can run pretty fast, less physical damage taken from enemies and the making the needle in the meter go slow while hacking. All these small new features go a long way in to making combat fun. Let’s talk about the enemies now. Splicers make a return and as always will attack you from anywhere. Then there are the brutes, who are occasionally much more tougher than the Big Daddies that you will find in the game. They are very quick and will throw any object on you and will take away a good chunk of your health. You will be facing a ton of Big Daddies across the game, but the toughest of all enemies are the Big Sisters. Their specialty lies in using missiles, quick reflexes and they move quickly, making them hard to spot. The concept of harvesting and adopting the Little sister also makes a comeback. It’s nothing revolutionary, depending on the action you take, you will be awarded with less or more upgrades.
Big Sister will keep you on your toes
Bioshock 2 is a great looking game. The world of Rapture again has been beautifully represented. Much of the beauty of Rapture is actually visible through the various swimming sections you will find in the game. I had always thought that the original Bioshock had the best color combination for its environments, but the sequels ups the ante by a big margin. Obviously the game is much better looking with realistic environments and believable characters. Sound in the game is amazing. The thunders and the winds hustling when Big Sister is around you and the unique sound that accompanies each of the area makes Bioshock 2 a treat to hear! As I mentioned before, much of the story telling is done through radio, but the voice acting in the same is pretty good.
If you are expecting that BioShock 2 is a revolution compared to its predecessor, then the answer is No. Much of the game play is derived from the original which is actually not a bad thing. The fact that it implements the mechanics of the original so well, makes it an instant buy for any gamer who loves first person shooter games.
Bioshock 2 is available in India for Rs. 699 (PC) & Rs. 2499 (Xbox 360 & PS3)
This game was reviewed on the PlayStation 3.
THE GOOD
Once again the underwater world of Rapture is breathtaking, Using Plasmids is a ton of fun, Strong plot
THE BAD
Much of the gameplay is recycled from the original, Not a lot of Plasmid variety
Final Verdict
Bioshock 2 does not do anything new, but the tried and tested game play elements of the first game which are employed in to the sequel make it a must buy.

Ubisofts creative director Maxime Béland has told VG247 in an interview that DRM is vital to the developer’s success.
He said that the heavy DRM now attached to new Ubisoft releases is helping the company to continue to develop “creative and innovative games”.
“We consider that protecting our PC games is vital to our business,” said Béland, “and will allow us to continue investing in the development of creative and innovative games on the PC platform.”
The DRM, which forces gamers to be online while they access any part of the game, has sparked controversy among the PC community. It was also thought that a withdrawal of Silent Hunter V and Assassins Creed II from Steam was due to the issue- in fact it was just down to an unrelated business decision.
Steam said,
“The games listed are available for sale in all other countries on STEAM. The fact it is not available on STEAM UK has nothing to do with the DRM but is linked to a local business discussion between Ubisoft and Steam in UK.”
The restricting technology has again come under fire recently when it emerged that Splinter Cell would be delayed for the PC until April 29- which again, Ubisoft claims, is unrelated to DRM.

GamesCom 2012 is looking to be a busy affair with Capcom making a lot of announcements, and one of such announcements, is the revelation of some new gameplay videos and a bunch of screenshots for Resident Evil 6.
They have also announced a social site called Resident Evil.net where you can compare stats with other Resident Evil 6 players, and is created mainly to enhance the multiplayer.
It’s PC-based service that displays information and stats on weapons use, enemies killed, friend’s gameplay progress, high scores for The Mercenaries, real-time gameplay progress and more.
In addition, Resident Evil 6 players can also work together to unlock new in-game content, such as costumes, by meeting certain requirements. For example, one objective has gamers teaming up to dispatch 10,000 zombies over a weekend period.
But don’t check the website right now because the site will be opened once the game is out on October this year.
The video posted below is called Cabin Gameplay, and is from Jake’s campaign. A bit of spoilers but considering it’s a huge game, I think there’s no harm in watching it. Second video is from Leon’s campaign.

Ok, let me start off by saying that the header title might be a little misleading. I say this because currently it only applies to the Xbox 360 version of Battlefield: Bad Company 2. Now eventually it should be available to everyone, everywhere, but currently you can only buy the upgrades in Europe and if you live in North America you can redeem Dr.Pepper 20 oz. bottle promotional codes to get you the kits (which conveniently is unavailable at the moment to redeem towards BC2). Everyone will presumably be able to purchase a new kit upgrade for each of the classes for the game eventually. Each upgrade will run you 160 Microsoft Points and will get you a new player skin for each class as well as a new gun camo for either the M16A2, UMP-45, MG3 or the M95 Sniper.
The game has also added 4 achievements for the Xbox 360 and new pins/insignias. Here are the additions:
Achievements:
Get all SPECACT Assault awards 15G
Get all SPECACT Engineer awards 15G
Get all SPECACT Medic awards 15G
Get all SPECACT Recon awards 15G
8 new pins:
In a round, kill 8 enemies with the M16 SPECACT.
Reach a killstreak of 5 with the M16 SPECACT
In a round, kill 8 enemies with the UMP SPECACT
Reach a killstreak of 5 with the UMP SPECACT
In a round, kill 8 enemies with the MG3 SPECACT
Reach a killstreak of 5 with the MG3 SPECACT
In a round. kill 8 enemies with the M95 SPECACT
Reach a killstreak of 5 with the M95 SPECACT
4 new Insignias:
100 kills using the Assault SPECACT Kit
100 kills using the Engineer SPECACT Kit
100 kills using the Medic SPECACT Kit
100 kills using the Recon SPECACT Kit
So basically, most of still have to hold out for these additions no matter the platform or location of ourselves anyway.. But keep it here to get informed when it will be available for everyone. Things might change moments from now or even weeks.

PC players rejoice – The Astronauts has announced that The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux is now available on PC. This is essentially what the PS4 version of the game was – the entire game remade in Unreal Engine 4 (the original being developed in UE3).
Those who already own the game will receive the update completely for free and it will appear as a completely separate game alongside the original. If you buy The Vanishing of Ethan Carter today, you’ll receive both the original and the Redux version.
It should be noted that no new content has been added to the game since its original launch. The jump to Unreal Engine 4 does result in a fairly strong shift in visuals though and should provide a much more beautiful experience to fans. It’s definitely worth checking out a second time.
For more information how the Redux version differs from the original UE3 build, check out our comparisonof the PC and PS4 versions for The Vanishing of Ethan Carter.

Say what you will about the upcoming Need for Speed, and its always online requirement ruining any excitement you had for the game, it is impossible to deny that the game looks gorgeous and beautiful. Like so many of its fellow racing games this generation – Mario Kart 8, DriveClub, Forza Horizon 2, Forza Motorsport 6 – Need for Speed looks striking.
The cars look absolutely incredible. What is more, you will be able to customize everything about them- from their wheels, tires, rims, brake discs, hoods, bumpers, headlights, wing mirrors, exhausts, to tuning their engines and suspension to even changing the license plates, everything is fair game, and everything can be changed and spruced to your liking, just like the old school Need for Speed Underground games.
Need for Speed will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in November this year. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for further coverage, and check out the new screenshots for the game below.

The beta for Blood Bowl 2 is now live; players who pre-ordered the game on Steam can now play the beta starting today. The beta includes both multiplayer and one-off matches against AI bots. The races currently available include Humans, Orcs, Skaven, and Dwarfs, and the final game will have even more races, including the Bretonnians (which you can see in the trailer below), and the Wood Elves and Lizardmen, which you get for pre-ordering the game.
Unlike a lot of the other betas these days, all your progress and data from the beta will carry over into the final game, so you can invest yourself fully into it, without worrying about it all having been for nothing. Personally, that would get me invested in playing the beta.
There is also a brand new trailer, which you can see for yourself below.
Blood Bowl 2 will release on PC, PS4 and Xbox One September 22. Stay tuned for more coverage.Tagged With:
If the already gorgeous PC version of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was not good enough for your taste, then as always, modders have come to the rescue for you. A new mod for the PC version has been released, and it will let you play beyond even the highest settings the game runs on.
Obviously, the mod is unofficial, and therefore unsanctioned by Konami, so you have to be careful when running it, and only run it when you have an exceptionally powerful rig. It adds Increased shadow resolution on Extra High, and makes it so extreme settings should be mostly playable at 60fps for powerful PCs. It also implements FXAA across the game evenly. You can download the mod here.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain launched on September 1 for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. It is the end to the current Metal Gear cycle, and brings the story of the series full circle. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage and information.

Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is a fantastic stealth action game. As I noted in my review, the gameplay mechanics are unique, something that will keep you hooked for hours. However the story feels unfinished and it ends abruptly. Around the game’s launch we got to know that Mission 51 that was cut from the final game, explained Liquid Snake and Big Boss’s intentions further. However it seems that Mission 51 was not the only thing that was removed. A whole chapter was removed as well.
The game currently has two chapters that are titled Revenge and Race. However according to users at Facepunchforums who extracted data from the gane’s files have revealed that there was supposedly a third chapter as well, titled Peace . We are not sure what that chapter contained except that the title card was found in the game’s files. Furthermore, textures of The Boss(clearly evident by that S shaped scar) were found in the game.
That is not all. I have been following the game ever since its announcement and after completing the game, I have observed that several scenes which were shown in the pre-launch trailers never actually made it to the game. For example the burning village scene and Snake screaming in the E3 2014 trailer, African child soldiers being trained by their master and a prisoner getting shot from the E3 2013 trailer, the mission based in Africa which was showcased in the TGS 2014 demonstration along with the PS4 cardboard box are no where to be found in the game.
This is indeed disappointing that despite being an extremely polished title, the story elements of the game along with an entire chapter were dropped. There may be even more chapters that were possibly dropped. Who knows at this stage? And honestly we may never know the truth behind these questionable edits. Ever game undergoes content and gameplay editing for refining purposes but in The Phantom Pain’s case, the edits are fishy. Something happened during the game’s development which affect the vision of the title.
It’s rather funny that despite all the heavy cuts, The Phantom Pain is still a remarkably fantastic game. It begs the question: What was the original vision behind the game and how much of that we are seeing in it? A question that perhaps will never be answered.

M any have long since tired of Bungie’s Destiny, especially in the wake of its initial reviews. However, the sales – and user participation – can’t lie. Destiny has been a massive success for Bungie and publisher Activision, with the former releasing new DLC content to expand on the original release. The Dark Below and House of Wolves may have had a lukewarm reception but the upcoming expansion The Taken King is different. Along with featuring a brand new “zone” to explore, a significant storyline centering around the war with Oryx and his Taken, and all the other little changes, The Taken King will effectively be the start of Destiny’s second year.
GamingBolt’s Leonid Melikhov spoke to Bungie engineering lead Luke Timmins about various aspects of The Taken King, how Year One players will get back into the game with the new expansion, changes and having fun at the end of the day. (Note: This interview took place at E3 2015 before many details regarding The Taken King were revealed.)
"He’s super bad. And the thing about Oryx that’s cool is he controls this army called the Taken. Right? So the Taken are cool. The Taken are basically– Oryx has a unique ability. He’s a hive King. He has this unique ability to basically tear these holes in the space-time."
Leonid Melikhov: So we have quite a few questions. Fans are excited for The Taken King. The Taken King is Destiny’s next big expansion; and there are already rumors…
Luke Timmins:
(laughs) The exciting thing is it’s out first major expansion. So the cool thing about it– I mean, yeah. I hope that for everybody who’s played it before– who’s played Destiny, like yourself, you know, I, I think it’s– I think they should be excited. We were trying to tell a completely, big, new campaign story beginning to end about Oryx. And, yeah, for people who’ve played The Dark Below, you know, they’re familiar with Ares who is basically, you know, sort of crazily talking about, “He’s coming!” And you’re like, “who?” And then you end up fighting Crota.
And then we are sort of bringing back characters that people should be familiar with. Here at E3 we are showing the opening, a little opening called “The Coming War.” And right off the bat you’re going to be like, “oh yeah. There’s Zavalla, there’s Eris.” And there’s this great moment really early where Eris is, like “He’s here!” And you’re like, “who?” And then there’s Oryx. You’re like, “whoa! My god!” And the first thing Oryx says to you is, you know, “hey, I’m here. You killed my son.” And for people who’ve played Dark Below– yes, I’ve personally killed Crota like multiple times a week. So you’re like, “hey, I get it.” There’s a new bad guy to kill.
He’s super bad. And the thing about Oryx that’s cool is he controls this army called the Taken. Right? So the Taken are cool. The Taken are basically– Oryx has a unique ability. He’s a hive King. He has this unique ability to basically tear these holes in the space-time. Basically takes guys from your dimension using these things called blights, where the darkness corrupts them. It twists them. They come back twisted and nasty with new abilities. They’re sort of this army. It wouldn’t be a Destiny game if we, of course, didn’t have some new ways to kill Oryx.
Leonid Melikhov: Of course. Make it fun.
Luke Timmins:
We’re super excited here. And we’re showing here at E3 we’re showing off that everybody gets a new subclass to play with. Every single class gets a new subclass. And I think everybody who’s played before should have something new to look forward to. I played my game as a Warlock. So the Storm Caller that they get is really fun to play with. Right now when you use Stormtrance, you basically go into third person; floating around, electrocuting people with chain-lightening. It’s a little over powered in the build. It’s pretty ridiculous. I’m also really excited for Titans. Titans finally get a solar thing. They finally get a ranged attack. They have a melee attack that’s really fun. And finally, I think the one that– when I first saw the– it was back in October– and I saw one of our designers on his desk, he was working on this thing with this bow. And I was like, “Whoa! What the fuck is that? Like, what is that?” (laughs). And he said, “this is going to be the new super for the hunter.” And I was like, “what!?” So when I first saw the Night Stalker, that night I went home and started a hunter and got her ready. Because it was that awesome.
Leonid Melikhov: Excited for that one, huh?
Luke Timmins:
So basically, everyone gets a new subclass to play with. New weapons, new gear, new exotics. It’s a huge part of the game we value. The big thing for us, The Taken King, it’s our first new destination we are adding to Destiny. So there’s a whole new area for people to explore. And it’s really early– you get to see Oryx in his gigantic floating Castle-ship. And you’re like, “Okay, I get it. I’m going to board that thing. I’m going to slaughter the Taken. I’m going to go find Oryx and kill him.
"Let me break that down. So first of all, I have three level 34 characters. I know that if I was the guy holding the mic and talking to a person from Bungie, I would literally be choking me right now and be like, “tell me about what the upgrade path is going to be.” We’re not talking about any of that right now."
Leonid Melikhov: Right.
Luke Timmins:
It’s a high level thing. Also coming with The Taken King– there’s tons of new stuff to do. There’s new strikes, new crucible mode, new maps…
Leonid Melikhov: How many?
Luke Timmins:
How many? (laughs)
Leonid Melikhov: How many missions, strikes, PVP? PVP maps also, by the way. What can we expect?
Luke Timmins:
So what we can talk about today– we’re showing four PVP maps here today. Two new game modes. The rough numbers about them and we’re basically showing- the PVP maps about half the amount we’ll be showing we’re going to be having eventually for Taken at launch. Like I said, new strikes, new maps, new public events, new patrols, new bounties, and new classes. Pretty much everything people will know from Destiny. There’s just going to be more of.
Leonid Melikhov: A lot more of. Of course. You talked about new weapons, exotics, obviously. What about upgrade materials for the Taken King? How will the damage cap still be 365? Will there be some other end-game content, say for PvPers, aside from the raid?
Luke Timmins:
Let me break that down. So first of all, I have three level 34 characters. I know that if I was the guy holding the mic and talking to a person from Bungie, I would literally be choking me right now and be like, “tell me about what the upgrade path is going to be.” We’re not talking about any of that right now. We are going to have– we know it’s super important to people. We know people are super passionate about it. We are going to be taking the time to talk about that as we get closer to launch. We are going to be talking a lot more about it as we get closer to launch.
Leonid Melikhov: House of Wolves marked the appearance of a new weapon type in the side arm.
Luke Timmins:
Yep.
Leonid Melikhov: There’s no doubt that more side arms will arrive for The Taken King. But will there be any new weapons types introduced such as the frequently requested heavy sniper from the fans?
Luke Timmins:
(laughs) I don’t want to talk about any new archetypes. But I can tell you I so want you to go try out the demo we are showing today here at E3. One thing that we did, I think we’re trying to do a better job of: so everybody knows, for example, the Suros Regime. It’s an exotic, right? It’s an exotic auto riffle. One thing that the team wanted to do with The Taken King was, we said, “you know what? Hey, people don’t realize it Suros isn’t just one gun. It’s actually one manufacturer.”
So we tried to do a thing, which is like, for The Taken King you should be able to seize Suros weapons– and they have a unique visual style– all Suros weapons are actually going to look very similar. And they’re actually going to have a similar way where people can customize and upgrade them. Pocket weapons are going to be the same (unfamiliar word 6:33). So that is one thing that we are talking about today is that we are going to be doubling down– we are trying to have much more signature styles of these weapons.
"Right now, the Warlock is super powerful! The Storm Trance is, in my opinion, probably just a little bit. So if you actually broke into Bungie, like tonight you would actually find that these are already tuned differently than what’s playable. We are constantly tuning them. So we know it’s important."
Leonid Melikhov: Awesome. Sounds good. How will (inaudible 6:48) at the presented rumor, new subclasses affect new gameplay, especially in the crucible; where there are constant complaints of some ‘super ability’ or another? Now I know you’ve talked about the super hunter bow. How are you guys– you know what I mean? Hunters always have a lot of stuff.
Luke Timmins:
That is a fantastic question. So today at E3 we are showing two new modes. We are showing “Rift”, which is an objective mode, and “Mayhem” which is just a f*cking hilarious, fun, crazy mode. We absolutely– we think about balance a lot within PVE and PVP. If you actually look at the History of dates that we’ve done…so we’ve updated– I think we’ve done like 29– our 30th update for Destiny was Monday. We think about that a lot. To make sure– like right now, I’m not going to lie to you. Right now, the Warlock is super powerful! The Storm Trance is, in my opinion, probably just a little bit. So if you actually broke into Bungie, like tonight you would actually find that these are already tuned differently than what’s playable. We are constantly tuning them. So we know it’s important. We don’t want anybody to be like, “Oh. Obviously everybody has to play Titan.” Like, right? Like nobody wants that across the board. So we know it’s important.
Leonid Melikhov: Now I’m going to have to go for the throat here.
Luke Timmins:
(laughs) Okay.
Leonid Melikhov: Destiny has surpassed initial expectations and criticism to become quite the time waster. The 10 year plan is still brought up. How much is all that going to play out in upcoming sequels, missions and other mechanics?
Luke Timmins:
So (inaudible 8:12). God, I hope people– time waster. I hope people don’t think about it that way. I mean, I think of it as, like I said–
Leonid Melikhov: I think it was more at the beginning.
Luke Timmins:
I hear you. Let me tell you my story. So every week I play with my best friend. On Tuesday night I play with my best friend on Nightfall. Wednesday I go Raiding with my raid group. On Saturday I play PVP. That is my weekly schedule.
And you know, for me– and it’s really funny– people ask me, because for a long time the whole thing was, I didn’t have Gjallarhorn. I’d been trying to get Gjallarhorn. And on Wednesday– this was like June 3rd, not that long ago– I was playing Vault of Glass ‘hard’. And the Gjallarhorn dropped. And my group of friends played it for a long time. Everyone was like– they were like we’re excited for me. I was, of course, like super happy. But they were like, “it happened for you!” So the thing for me is that– if you said the question, “hey, man, what is Destiny?” Destiny is a game that inherently– and I’m grabbing a controller here. It’s a game that feels good in your hands to shoot aliens with your friends. But the key part of that is ‘with your friends’. So for me, like, when I think about Destiny, it’s all about the game that I’m playing a lot with my friends. I’m also enjoying a beer or something like that.
"The Live Team, they can only do so much. It really is up to the next major releases. Like with The Taken King, where they can say, “alright, guys, let’s build a better strike. Let’s build it better.”"
Leonid Melikhov: Right.
Luke Timmins:
So the first part of that is basically like, I hope that when people are playing this, they’re playing with their friends or enjoying their time doing that. That was the first part of your question. But yeah, the 10 year plan. The contract that we have with people– and we said that we talked about the 10 year plan. I mean, we have a high level story arch that we think about over 10 years. But when we think about the ’10 year plan’ the key contract from us is that– when you make your Guardian in Destiny– it doesn’t matter if you buy The Taken King and you make it for the first time, or you were there since day one, we are going to keep releasing new ventures to keep expanding Destiny; and your Guardian is always going to be there. And that’s a ‘long term’ thing. Like we’re not stopping. So for me– like yeah, we set up another team. We think of the next adventure we are going to work on. I hope that answers your question.
Leonid Melikhov: I think it’s a difficult question. I think the most criticism was, like– and not really– yeah, it was fun to play with friends and all that. And I’ve had fun with it too. But I think it was the loot.
Luke Timmins:
Sure.
Leonid Melikhov: And I think that’s why people called it a ‘time waster’ because you get all these things, but you never really get what you want. And you guys now, like from House of Wolves– and you brought something up, and finally your exotic weapons useful again. You know what I’m talking about? I think that’s where the whole time wasting thing came in.
Luke Timmins:
Every game– so it’s funny. We have, you know, like I mentioned– at Bungie we have a team called the “Live Team”. The Live Team’s job is to basically be thinking about the community, listening to feedback, and trying to do small patches.
Leonid Melikhov: Of course.
Luke Timmins:
The Live Team, they can only do so much. It really is up to the next major releases. Like with The Taken King, where they can say, “alright, guys, let’s build a better strike. Let’s build it better.” So we can sort of take a bunch of that feedback and I hope people– if there’s one thing I hope people say about Destiny is that ever release we are trying to get a little bit better.
Leonid Melikhov: I think it’s funny how people are like– House of Wolves, when you announced it was April or March or May I think you revealed it. And then it came out the day of The Witcher 3. Kind of funny. Amazing game.
Luke Timmins:
(whispers) I’m playing it now.
Leonid Melikhov: I’ve got to get back to Destiny. My weapons are useful now. That was the big deal. And that’s where everything changed. And even my friend who didn’t play his Xbox six months because he was playing on the PS4 with me just playing, like Bloodborne and other games. Because he had Destiny on Xbox.
Luke Timmins:
(whispers) Bloodborne’s amazing too.
Leonid Melikhov: Yes. And he was like, “you know what? Let me try this, it sounds really good.” He’s been hooked on it.
Luke Timmins:
That’s good to hear.
"For 60 dollars, if you know nothing about Destiny, or you’ve been sort of like, “meh,” we’re like, “listen, you will get: Destiny, Dark Below, House of Wolves,” and all those things they need for 60 bucks"
Leonid Melikhov: I haven’t given my full commitment. Because I played WoW for 10 years. So I know how RPGs are, and I’m like, “until this gets fixed I’m not playing it.”
Luke Timmins:
I hear you.
Leonid Melikhov: Personal thing. I have the game. It’s still sealed. I’m thinking this may be a good time to jump in now.
Luke Timmins:
I hope — I mean I really do hope that a lot of the– I mean this is going to sound weird. When we were thinking about the different offerings for how we were going to– we said, “okay. The Taken King. What are we going to sell it as?” One of the offerings we said, “Hey, we really wanted to have this 60 hour version of the game with everything.
Leonid Melikhov: Of course.
Luke Timmins:
Right? For 60 dollars, if you know nothing about Destiny, or you’ve been sort of like, “meh,” we’re like, “listen, you will get: Destiny, Dark Below, House of Wolves,” and all those things they need for 60 bucks– And I’m like, “guys.” I hope that people see that. I hope so.
Leonid Melikhov: It looks great. I liked the E3 trailer. I was at the conference. I liked all of the holographic weapons. That’s kind of like– I’m like, “all those? Yeah, not I might be interested.” I like melee combat, and I like energy weapons.
Luke Timmins:
Especially for me. I’m actually a big support-class player. So my Titan is a super-class. So I was super excited for the Hunter just because I wanted another support class in the game.
Leonid Melikhov: My main one was a Hunter.
Luke Timmins:
Yeah.
Leonid Melikhov: Now we’ve seen plenty, numerous improvements made to the game– the base game. We’re not talking about improvements or expansions or anything like that. What other feedback are you guys currently looking at to tackle and implement for the bass game, not anything new.
Luke Timmins:
It’s hard, because, like I said, I’m on the Live Team. If you, again, if you broke into Bungie every morning at 9:30, we have a group of us who are like, “Okay. What are the top issues in the community?” So we hear everything. We are kind of a whole team of people. We are constantly looking. Our most vocal community, whatever, be if GAF, or be it Reddit.
"I’ve had people ask me here at E3. They’re like, “what are you going to do about this thing?” And I’m like, “guys, The Taken King, when it launches there’s going to be a whole bunch of new toys and all the new supers–“"
Leonid Melikhov: Right.
Luke Timmins:
We are both trying to– the Live Team especially, is trying to do things like– we talked a little bit about it earlier about balance of weapons. We know. We hear the vocal complaints about, like, “Oh my god! I’m sick of, be it Thorn. I’m sick of so on.” So those are things. We hear it, we get it. We know that’s important because we want people to have choices when they’re playing different modes. We hear a lot about that.
Leonid Melikhov: I think that the emphasis in a game like this, where it’s always evolving, is that it’s never going to be super balanced. It has a certain balance level but it’s never going to be perfect.
Luke Timmins:
100 percent. I’ve had people ask me here at E3. They’re like, “what are you going to do about this thing?” And I’m like, “guys, The Taken King, when it launches there’s going to be a whole bunch of new toys and all the new supers–”
Leonid Melikhov: Right. Don’t worry about that.
Luke Timmins:
And people are like, “oh, yeah.” And I’m like, “guys, there’s always new stuff being added–”
Leonid Melikhov: Of course.
Luke Timmins:
That’s the whole point of the Crucible.
Leonid Melikhov: And it’s also the challenge because, again, new stuff, new balance.
Luke Timmins:
Of course.
Leonid Melikhov: Especially the subclasses. That’s another one.
Luke Timmins:
Yeah. But also as a player that’s also part of the fun.
Leonid Melikhov: But now I get to be powerful for a month, and then I’m going to go get the stuff. I’m going to go make something else now. Because that’s overpowered. (Laughs) Because that’s how it usually is. Okay. I probably have about four more questions, maybe.
Luke Timmins:
No problem.
Leonid Melikhov: Okay. You’re going to hate me for this one. I’m going to go for the throat again. This probably has been asked for a hundred-million times. Is Destiny ever coming to the PC?
Luke Timmins:
(laughs)
"Let me tell you– let me say the three things I’ll tell you about the Raid. So the first thing is– we’ve had a lot of questions about this. People are like, “is it a three-man Raid?” No. So it’s a six-man Raid, first of all. Secondly, it’s on– it is on the new destination. It is going to be on the Dreadnaught."
Leonid Melikhov: I ask this because you guys have expressed interested in the past.
Luke Timmins:
We are– I mean, I’ll say we are Bungie. Especially as engineers, we are always looking at different experiences, at different tech. (Whispers) I have nothing to announce. I have nothing to say about it that I’ve hear. And that is one question that we get. And we know. We’ve heard it before. We’ve heard it from a lot of PC fans who are like, “please!” And I’m like, “I hear you!”
Leonid Melikhov: I have a feeling it’s going to be one of those things where– I don’t know if you heard at the Sony conference– were you guys there?
Luke Timmins:
Me? Yeah.
Leonid Melikhov: You were there. We saw Shenmue 3, we saw Final Fantasy 7–
Luke Timmins:
Yes!
Leonid Melikhov: And we saw The Last Guardian. And everyone was just kind of like– this is what people have been asking for over a decade. I mean, a sequel to a 14 year old game. I mean, I think within a 10 year commitment, we’re probably going to see a PC version.
Somewhere down the line at a Sony conference where you guys come out and say, “we know you’ve been asking for this a long time so here it is.” I’m seeing that image.
Luke Timmins:
Same thing here. I cannot say anything else about it.
Leonid Melikhov: So stealth answer: yes it’s coming.
Luke Timmins:
No. I’m not saying that.
Leonid Melikhov: I’m just kidding.
Luke Timmins:
(laughs)
Leonid Melikhov: Let’s see here. What’s going on with the Raids? Will the Raid be– will the new Raid be more like The Vault of Glass and its sprawling nature? A quick and action packed Raid like Crota’s End, or something in between?
Luke Timmins:
Let me tell you– let me say the three things I’ll tell you about the Raid. So the first thing is– we’ve had a lot of questions about this. People are like, “is it a three-man Raid?” No. So it’s a six-man Raid, first of all. Secondly, it’s on– it is on the new destination. It is going to be on the Dreadnaught. When people see everything with the Dreadnaught– it’s going to be on the Dreadnaught.
"The Raid is super important to us. It’s super important to the community. I actually– even if I knew– like, there are details about it that I want people to discover on their own time…"
Leonid Melikhov: Is the Dreadnaught a planet or a–
Luke Timmins:
It’s a ship. Well, it’s floating outside Saturn.
Leonid Melikhov: It’s a gigantic ship.
Luke Timmins:
It’s a gigantic ship.
Leonid Melikhov: Right. Right.
Luke Timmins:
How about this? It is a ridiculously–
Leonid Melikhov: Sized ship.
Luke Timmins:
Comedic sized ship.
Leonid Melikhov: Right.
Luke Timmins:
It is gigantic.
Leonid Melikhov: Right.
Luke Timmins:
And third is that, I was playing soccer a couple years ago and I shattered– broke my thumb. Luke Smith will re-break my thumb if I say anything else about the Raid. He’s actually around here. Whenever someone says “Raid” he gets this face like, “I’ll fucking kill you!”
Leonid Melikhov: (laughs)
Luke Timmins:
We know the Raid– he’s laughing. He knows I mean it too.
Leonid Melikhov: (laughs)
Luke Timmins:
The Raid is super important to us. It’s super important to the community. I actually– even if I knew– like, there are details about it that I want people to discover on their own time–
Leonid Melikhov: So it’s more of a– exploring is the fun.
Luke Timmins:
Yeah. Absolutely. Oh my god. Absolutely.
Leonid Melikhov: You want the players to be surprised and happy.
Luke Timmins:
Yeah.
"When you go play the demo, The Taken King, the first time you encounter Psions and you realize their ability is to, basically, split– they multiply like bunnies. So the first thing that happens: people walk in, they see The Taken Psion, they see the Ultra Knight."
Leonid Melikhov: Instead of being told.
Luke Timmins:
I mean, I’m going to tell you this one more thing. The Dreadnaught– let’s talk about the Dreadnaught for a minute. So the Dreadnaught to us, it is the same thing with Strikes or with anything else we do. We are trying to be– it’s our first new destination. For us it’s the next iteration of how we make destinations, right?
Leonid Melikhov: Of course.
Luke Timmins:
We got a lot of feedback on our destinations. People are like, “hey, they’re sort of static. I’d like to have more sort of dynamic stuff here.” So for us– what I hope is there are mysteries and secrets on the Dreadnaught that we are not going to talk about because I want people to discover them.
Leonid Melikhov: Right. Because if you tell people everything then there is no point–
Luke Timmins:
Yeah. There’s no point. I’m going to give you the “hands off” answer and be like, we know it’s important. I’m super excited for people to play it. They’re doing a lot of play-testing at Bungie about it. But that’s all I’m going to say about the Raid.
Leonid Melikhov: That sounds good.
Luke Timmins:
Because I like my thumb.
Leonid Melikhov: Let’s see here. What was I going to ask you? I forget. Trying to remember. Raids went through, loot went through, uh…
Luke Timmins:
I’ve also had a lot of people come in– like they’ll come in just like you’re doing and they’ll be like, “What the fuck? The Taken. You just dipped them in black paint.” I’m like, “Have you played The Taken?” And the reason is, because I’m actually really proud– I think the teams really proud of The Taken. Because the cool thing about The Taken is, like, for people they’ll take the Psion, right? So the Psion– most people who have played Destiny, they’re sort of these– you know, they’re somewhat lethal, but they’re mostly like popcorn guys you’re used to just shooting.
They’re sort of like ads. When you go play the demo, The Taken King, the first time you encounter Psions and you realize their ability is to, basically, split– they multiply like bunnies. So the first thing that happens: people walk in, they see The Taken Psion, they see the Ultra Knight. They start shooting the Ultra Knight and then they look to their left and there’s like 15 of them. Like, “Ah, oh god!” And then they kill them. And I’m like– so I’m actually like, I think the team. No. I’m not “I think.” The team is really proud of the work for The Taken. And I think it’s hard to show it with stills, so I really want people to play it. And then you can tell me. You can tell me later.
"For the Night stalker, I’m super excited to have another support class to be playing that. I actually have my level 34 Hunter just waiting just for this. I’m really excited for that. I’m excited for people to see the Dreadnaught. I think it’s going to be cool."
Leonid Melikhov: Okay. Now for the expansions you guys released, you have House of Wolves and Dark Below. None of these had additional Achievements or Trophies. And with this one being a big expansion will people see something more to get other than Platinum?
Luke Timmins:
You are actually the third person to ask me that. I actually do not know.
Leonid Melikhov: You don’t know?
Luke Timmins:
And I don’t actually know if you know either about additional Achievements or Trophies. I actually do not know.
Third Person:
Yeah. I don’t think we are talking about it.
Luke Timmins:
I don’t think we are talking about it. So I don’t actually know.
Leonid Melikhov: Because from what it seems like, this is more of an actual bigger expansion as opposed to, “here’s a content patch with a name.”
Luke Timmins:
This is absolutely a major expansion. It is bigger than both previous new releases.
Leonid Melikhov: So I’m assuming with a major thing you’re adding on top?
Luke Timmins:
I can tell you everything but the content.
Leonid Melikhov: That’s fine.
Luke Timmins:
You’re the first person to ask me and I’m like, “Oh, God! I’m not going to know!”
Leonid Melikhov: It would make logical sense to me. What are you looking forward to the most? People exploring the game, people playing the game, I mean. Actually, what feature are you most excited for in The Taken King? I know there are a lot of things, but…
Luke Timmins:
For me personally, I absolutely meant it when I said it, like, I really like playing support classes. I love it. Like my Titan– I love being the guy, like when we are going to go play PVE and someone’s like, “we need a fucking Titan.” I’m like, “yo, I got a Titan.” For the Night stalker, I’m super excited to have another support class to be playing that. I actually have my level 34 Hunter just waiting just for this. I’m really excited for that. I’m excited for people to see the Dreadnaught. I think it’s going to be cool.
Back to your previous question. With everything that we’ve released with Destiny in Alpha, Beta, every single one, I think myself– like a lot of people– you sort of sit back and you’re like, “God, I hope people like it.” At the end of the day we do this so people can play and have fun with their friends, smile and be happy. I’ve been sitting here watching people come in playing the opening of The Taken King, just looking at their faces. Because I’m like, “I hope they’re having fun.” At the end of the day, when you are buying The Taken King, my hope is when you see it you’re like, “I’m going to take my Guardian, and I’m going to go off on a new adventure with my friends–”
Leonid Melikhov: And have fun.
Luke Timmins:
Yeah, “and have fun.”
