The addition of microtransactions to Forza Motorsport 6 recently has, obviously, been met with a fair degree of controversy- especially since the egregious microtransactions in Forza Motorsport 5 were the single biggest complaint that was leveled at the game.

But Forza Motorsport 6’s director, Dan Greenawalt, has taken to Twitter to defend their inclusion in the game, speaking in response to people who have called their addition to the game ‘sad.’ Greenawalt points outthat Forza 6 was completely “designed, tuned, and tested 100 percent without [microtransactions],” and that, if they really do annoy the player or impede their player experience, they can be turned off entirely. In other words, Greenawalt believes that the implementation of microtransactions in Forza 6 is the least intrusive and cynical way possible.

Personally, I think the best way to go about this would have been to not have any microtransactions in the game to begin with- then again, with the game having failed at retail, maybe this was the only recourse for Microsoft and Turn 10 to recoup some of their investment into the game.

It isn’t exactly a surprise that Star Wars: Battlefront is an incredibly popular game. That’s one of the reasons Sony, EA and DICE have struck a deal that forces any advertisement for the game to officially advertise the PS4 version. In the UK at least, Microsoft has found a rather creative way to get around this particular deal. In the Metro newspaper, a Neogafuser has spotted how Microsoft is making it clear the game is also on the Xbox One console.

In the paper, right next to a review of the game, there is a full page ad on the next page which simply says “available now on the Xbox One.” This makes it appear as though the review itself is an advertisement that is tied into the Microsoft Xbox One. This kind of advertisement allows Microsoft to get the word out there, without breaking any kind of exclusivity deal the game has with Sony. The company has made this kind of move before.

The company used this kind of “trickery” last year when it came to advertising Destiny, as that game too has a deal with Sony. In that case, Microsoft was even more imaginative but advertising the game as though it was a fragrance. This particular move seems even smarter, as the review says the game is available for the Xbox One, PC and PS4, it says it in small print people have to look for, while the full page ad hints people will only be able to get Star Wars: Battlefronton the Xbox One.

DC Universe Online is an amazing title for many different reasons, one being that it’s an MMO that brings you into the world of DC and all its heroes and villains, which there are plenty of that even the most die hard DC fan might have not known about.  Another aspect of the game is that is was not just released on the PC but the Playstation 3 as well making this one of the first true MMO’s for a console and the best part about that is that it actually works well on the PS3, which even surprised me.  Sony Online Entertainment does a great job of making this a true MMO that both PC and Playstation 3 owners can enjoy.

Why So Serious?

One downside of course is that DC Universe Online is not cross-platform so you cant play people on the PC while you are on the Playstation 3, which would have made an out standing edition to the game as there is not much difference when it comes to pros and cons between platforms.  This game also will bring non MMO players into the MMO world being that it is available on a console and that it has characters most people are familiar with.  This makes people feel like they are not taking on a whole new fantasy world MMO-RPG when they nearly are.  This might turn off some hardcore MMO players and reel non MMO players in, but in short, DC Universe Online in not turn based, but more of a hack and slash kind of MMO.  You don’t have to hack and slash your way through the game as you can choose all ranged abilities, but are always given the option to run up and punch someone as there is a combo system added to the game, even when it comes to certain ranged attacks.

On the PC you can set your powers/abilities as you unlock and purchase them to slots which you can then map keys to use.  But it is not complex as the PS3 version just requires you to hold down the left or right trigger and press one of the face buttons.  This does not include certain abilities that are used by combos.  For instance, I can hold down the left trigger while pressing circle to throw magical bat blades on my specific character as I chose Batman as my mentor.  I can also hold down the left bumper and press square to shoots magical beams out of my eyes that can be used as a ranged or close combat move, close combat hurling the enemy into the air while this is a combo move.  Joining a PvP server will let you see other players that have aligned as villains and as a a hero you can bang it out right there, or choose to just walk away unless he feels a strong need to fight you.  After reaching a high enough level you can join PvP Arenas where you can take on the role of an iconic figure like Superman.  PvE servers do not have those capabilities where you are safe from everyone but AI.

Dual Wielding Pistols

The character customization is a large role in the game and not just because it is so in depth.  Sony Online Entertainment has gone to the trouble of giving you the option to create your character choosing Morality, Personality, Super Power, Movement (Flight, Super Speed, Agility), Weapons, Emblems and the look of your player.  Nearly all these decisions will affect your game while you also have the option to make a quick character based on an iconic figure like Batman, Joker, Superman and more that can be fine tuned later.  This option is good for casual players or making a new character on the go to enter a different server.  Once you make you character you can only use that character in the server you choose be it a PvP one or a PvE one, however you can create new characters for that same server or a different one.  You must choose a mentor, either Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman(Good)/Joker, Lex Luther or Circe(Evil) which each have which will coincide with your  unique  abilities/skills you will unlock and purchase using points from leveling.  One of the best parts about this is that you never see the same looking character running around, I even saw Harvey Birdman for those of you who are familiar with the old and new cartoon.  Whatever mentor you choose if where you will begin your journey, Batman mentoring you will start you in Gotham City while Superman will start you off in Metropolis which can all be visited no matter your mentor.

As you level up , you gain Skill Point and Power Points.  Skill points can be used on weapons and movement abilities while Power Points are concentrated on your tree.  These Power Points can be used to gain abilities depending on the tree path you take to grant you abilities in Destiny , Summoning and Iconic Powers .  These powers are are iconic and resemble the super heroes in the game.  For instance, I had Batman as my mentor and I gained a power where I threw three ninja star looking items that resembled Batman’s Bat Blades but there are many, many more as well as many variations depending on you character’s creation as well as your tree path.  DC Universe Online is unlike other MMO’s, being that it is grind free as far as  XP goes, you only level by completing missions, whether side quests or main missions.

That’s What Friends Are For

There are Raids in the game, including Raids that only maximum level players can join with the max level being 30.  Some of the Legendary Armor that can be only be worn by level 30’s  can be seen in certain areas of the game and looks… fucking awesome.  You can play the game by yourself but it HIGHLY unrecommended, the game if forced to be played by yourself is much less fun as it is a lot more difficult by yourself much like many MMO’s so with out and XP grinding, you almost have to play this game with other people, be it a group, a squad, league  or guild.  This is a downside of the game, especially on the PS3 as while you chat and shout text asking for help or to create a group, if you can’t get people to join you in your venture, you might find yourself at a stand still unable to progress, which is not good.  So getting this game with at least one friend to play it with is a really good idea.  Sony Online Entertainment promises to keep updating the game with new content and change the world you no now to evolve.  This is important being that there is a $15 monthly fee or a fee just under $200 for a lifetime subscription.  The standard missions are all quite very similar, requiring you to kill a certain amount of enemies and collect things.

DC Universe Online is a truly intriguing MMO especially anyone who is familiar with any of the DC heroes or villains, which is very common in today’s age.  The different moves and attacks that are unique depending on the player are very impressive see visually and chained together being a real time fighting system.  Whether you have rock skin or are set ablaze, or flying through or using your agility to climb building or swiftly attack enemies, the game is very impressive, in those any many more aspects.  You won’t find a hero or villain looking alike as you travel through the world of DC Universe, where you can aid a random hero in need of help or jumping an morally evil person from behind in PvP outside of the arenas.  Just remember, two heads are better than one, so it always better to play with friends or random people for that matter.

This game was reviewed on the PlayStation 3.

THE GOOD

Works well on the PlayStation 3. Familiar Universe of characters. Good enough to stand against other MMOs.

THE BAD

Hard to play by yourself to a degree. Could use a better in game open chat aspect. The missions are all quite very similar, requiring you to kill a certain amount of enemies and collect things.

Final Verdict

DC Universe Online is a great MMO that works well on the Playstation 3 as well as the PC, It has great elements from your average MMO while it has its unique aspects that make it work in the well know world of DC heroes and villains.

Here is a new trailer (given below) featuring the gadgets in ‘Breach’, an Xbox Live Arcade Game for 1200 Microsoft Points also available on the PC this January 26th.

The game is made by Atomic Games, the same developers doing Six Days in ‘Fallujah’, and although I could not get anything out of them while playing Breach with them, I would assume this is a taste of whats to come in ‘Six Days in Falluja’ which has been dropped and picked up a number of times by publishers due to real life combat scenarios happening now overseas.

Come back and check out our review on the 26th.

Check out the trailer below.

Here is some more gameplay courtesy of GameSpot.com including ‘Convoy’ Mode which is a lot of fun as well as ‘Retrieval’ footage:

A UNC-TV news report features how gaming is growing in North Carolina, which happens to be the headquarters location of Epic Games.  Epic obviously created the Gear of War franchise and one of the best game engine as well as most used, the Unreal Engine.

The video is actually pretty interesting regarding the industry aside from the Gears of War 3 footage than can be seen that has never been seen before.  The military uses gaming for before and after warfare and there is plenty f other info on the industry.  Check it out.

Plenty has been said about Bethesda Softworks’ Fallout 4 but the developer has promised above all else that the general gunplay will be much better than Fallout 3, which means you can rely on your own skills to succeed instead of leaning on V.A.T.S. Bethesda actually used Bungie’s Destiny has a strong reference with former Bungie employee Josh Hamrick working as senior systems designer on Fallout 4 and being “focused intently on tuning” the game’s weapons.

As director Todd Howard told Game Informer (as per GameSpot), “The main difference in the way we develop [and other studios] is that we will develop with as many knobs as possible.

“We’re always thinking of scale. We’re not a team that is just going to make eight guns and spend forever on one gun. We knew we were going to have thousands, so we needed to develop a gun system that had all of the dials.”

And hey, even if Destiny has its problems, most everyone can agree that the shooting is fun as hell. What are your thoughts on Fallout 4 taking inspiration from the same? Let us know in the comments.

The official Fallout 4 Pip-Boy app is now available…for Android. You can find it on the Google Play Storeand will support interaction with Fallout 4 on all platforms.

The Fallout 4 Pip-Boy app lets you check all your Fallout 4 data including your inventory, map, radio and your overall statistics. And yes, it’s also capable of playing retro-style holotape games like Atomic Command (which is available for free). If you pick up the Fallout Pip-Boy Edition that comes with a personal Pip-Boy device which your phone can be inserted into, the app will essentially make it feel like your very own Pip-Boy.

With Fallout Shelter having released on iOS first and Android later, it’s odd that the Fallout 4 Pip-Boy app is currently only available on Android.

Fallout 4 will be releasing on November 10th for PS4, Xbox One and PS4. What are your thoughts on the game, especially after the numerous leaks we’ve seen? Let us know in the comments below and stay tuned for more information next week.

Though the Xbox has always been hailed as the shooter fan’s console of choice, thanks to the successes of franchises like Gears of War and Halo, this generation is going a bit different according to PlayStation UK marketing manager Lauren Bradley.

Speaking to MCV, Bradley said that “This generation, the shooter audience is tending to switch over to PS4. So we’ve got high expectations for Star Wars Battlefront around both launch and into next year.”

There aren’t any hard numbers to support that claim really but it’s obvious that Sony is working hard to appeal to shooter fans. Along with exclusive deals pertaining to Star Wars Battlefront (with its limited edition 1 TB PS4 bundle) and Destiny’s one year exclusive extras, it also lays claim to timed exclusivity deals on DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.

The question is: Will Battlefront really be enough to appeal to shooter fans wanting a PS4? We’ll find out in the coming weeks.

Can’t get enough of all the Fallout 4 leaks, especially as Bethesda Softworks warns players to avoid them due to spoilers? Rejoice and/or fear not – the launch trailer is here and brings plenty of teasing about the actual big bad villain in the game. Check it out below.

Plenty of references are made to the Institute in the trailer but whatever it is, they’re apparently described as a malignant disease that’s worse than the Raiders and Super Mutants. The footage itself shows some new gameplay along with dialogue from the female protagonist played by Courtenay Taylor who does an impressive job. The trailer itself ends with a nod back to the initial reveal trailer.

Fallout 4 is out on November 10th for the Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Will you be picking it up (spoiler: You are)? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned for more information next week.

Well, this is the best leak of the year so far.

What possibly could be a new Batman: Arkhum City trailer looks simple out of this world.

This looks well on its way to take over the title of being the best superhero game ever made from it predecessor. The trailer shows Batman and the Joker fighting together to take out the bad guys, which is  a very strong indication that there might be co-op in the game.

Arkhum City releases later this year for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

You can view the leaked trailer over here. Be quick, it’ll be taken off soon.

Update: Somebody has posted the trailer on youtube, so we have the video for you.

Blizzard’s excellent shooter Overwatch seems to be a treat- which is why it makes sense that so many players will want to play it. Happily, it seems as though Blizzard will be spreading the love, as more and more evidence continues to mount that Overwatch might be coming to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Fans are actually expecting that announcement at BlizzCon right now, and they have a lot of good reasons to, as well- especially since some pretty compelling and irrefutable proof that the game is coming to the consoles has emerged in the beta files for the game on the PC.

Strings for authentication checks in the game’s source code (INITIAL_PSN_OR_XBL_AUTH; WAITING_FOR_PSN_OR_XBL_AUTH) ( discovered by Overpwn) The European website noting consoles in source code(noted by WCCFTech) The user friendly interface, which doesn’t use as many inputs Controller support for the PC version

So, could Overwatch indeed be coming to consoles? Especially given how Diablo made its way over to PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One to great success, it’s not unreasonable to suppose that Overwatch might make the jump too. Stay tuned to GamingBolt, and we’ll keep you posted.

“The reception for Magicka has been better than we dared to hope, watching the numerous YouTube clips of gamers and editors worldwide laughing themselves senseless as they misfire spells left and right as well as the comments on twitter and forums show us people really get the humor and the idea behind Magicka.” said Shams Jorjani, Producer at Paradox Interactive. “Singleplayer and LAN is what most people are currently playing but updating the multiplayer lobby and continuously improving the game is our top priority. “

Ubisoft is one of the biggest publishers in the world, with some of the industry’s biggest franchises and games- from Rayman to Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry to Watch Dogs, Ubisoft is a AAA third party publishing powerhouse. Which is why it matters which system they will push more- it could change the course of the console war. And the system they will push more is the system they do the best on. Which, it seems, judging by their latest financial report, is the PS4.

27% of all Ubisoft software sales come from the PS4 (up from 21% last year for the same period). This marks the second year straight that the PS4 has netted Ubisoft so much software revenue. Interestingly enough, the PS4 is followed up not by the Xbox One, but by the PC, a platform that has traditionally been weak for Ubisoft, owing to their habit of late and often broken releases, hamfisted DRM practices, and of late, their pushing of their own Uplay initiatives.

The Xbox One comes third, at 12% of the total sales, while the PS3 and Xbox 360 are both tied at 9%.

So, you know how Ubisoft abruptly switched course from supporting Microsoft with Assassin’s Creed last year, to Sony this year? Looks like there may have been an actual, tangible reason for that, guys.

As Blizzard gears up for Blizzcon, it appears the company is looking to pay some brand new attention to some older games. The company recently placed an ad looking for its “Classic Games” division and is looking for a new engineer. The move certainly makes sense considering like Starcraft and Warcraft III are still plenty popular among the fanbase when it comes to that style of game. Those particular games aren’t just old, but really old and it appears the company understands it needs to make sure they are looked after.

While there was some talk that Blizzard might be looking to take games like Diablo II to the current generation, the firm told Gamespotthe issue is really about making sure it’s older titles are getting enough attention. Considering the company is moving forward with other projects like Hearthstonemost of the team that currently works at the firm have their attention on the new games. The firm will be looking to hire this new position to pay attention to its classic games.

“We need engineers to help maintain our legacy games. We have a history of maintaining our games for many years. Our earlier games are still played and enjoyed today, so we want to continue to maintain them for those communities.” The company said in a recent release. It doesn’t appear the team that might eventually be hired won’t be very big, considering the person hired would need to wear “many hats.” Still, it’s cool to see the company paying attention to games we grew up playing.

BioWare has always been known for making great games, but they have never gone through a time as good as the seventh generation of gaming. They have given out some great games, the best of which has to be their new Mass Effect franchise. In just (nearly) four years since its inception, the series has made a solid place for itself in the industry. It is recognized by everybody as not just a franchise of extraordinary quality, but as one of the best Role Playing franchises of all time.

Mass Effect 2 has been rated higher than most of the “memorable” games this generation, and has been cited by many to be one of the best games created- ever. However, that’s not to say the original Mass Effect wasn’t a great game.

No, Mass Effect was a brilliant game. When it came out in 2007, its fantastic story and Role Playing-centric gameplay appealed to one and all. The choice based character progression was better than in any other game before it, and overall, the brilliant production values all around just made it seem like an awesome high-budget space opera movie.

Not just that- the characters were memorable and likeable, and Urdnot Wrex and Garrus became my irreplaceable favourites. And with two badass villains such as Saren and Sovereign to boot, the game was all set.

Mass Effect did have a few flaws, however. The menu and the inventory systems were too clunky, the shooting mechanics and the cover system were all too unwieldy. The vehicle sections were just plain awful, and some other minor hiccups here and there somewhat tarnished what would have otherwise been a perfect experience.

Behold, one of the most badass antagonists of all time.

However, I, and almost everyone on this planet (and maybe even beyond) adored Mass Effect, and after the success it got critically and commercially, a sequel was but inevitable.

But when BioWare did announce Mass Effect 2 for the Xbox 360 and the PC, fear gnawed at me. Mass Effect had been such a raging success because of the impact it had on all those who played it. Sure, it had its own share of flaws, and it was not a small share to be honest, but it was nothing like anything we had ever seen before, and that was what made it so damn good. Add to that the fact that BioWare was cutting down on the Role Playing mechanics, which was what made the first game so good, and a general perception that Mass Effect 2 was being “casualized” and “consolized” was formed.

Moreover, how could Mass Effect 2 possibly introduce something to the mix that would make all gamers love it more than they loved Mass Effect? The very fact that it was a sequel to the 2007 super-hit RPG title made one thing certain- that it was restricted by the limitations of the first game, for most of the part, and that it simply could not have as huge an impact on the audiences. How, then, could it become a game better than its original? Would they just improve upon all the mistakes of ME1? No, no, they had to do something else- something more .

And guess what? They did. Mass Effect 2came out in January 2010, and it came out with a loud, loud bang. Receiving perfect and near-perfect scores all over the board, with critics (including us) calling it the best game to have been released in a long time, it became clear even before its release that ME2 would go on to become one of the most legendary and memorable games of not just 2010, but this entire generation of gaming. Recently, it won a plethora of awards, including many from ourselves. We even named it our Game of the Year 2010.

Yes, Mass Effect 2 was more of a Third Person Shooter than an RPG. It was actually a TPS with Action Role Playing elements thrown into the mix, but everything Mass Effect 2 did, it did brilliantly, and without any hiccups. The shooting and cover mechanics worked exceptionally well, and seemed extremely polished and enjoyable even when compared to other true cover-based shooters such as Uncharted and Gears of War. The Role Playing elements had been stripped down heavily, yet they were still there, and they were deep enough to keep RPG fanatics interested in the game for the entire thirty-hour long campaign.

The character progression was better than any other game ever before, even better than Mass Effect. Choices made a lot more sense now, and had a larger impact than in ME1. With so many variations within the game, and each variation huge enough to alter the course of the entire game- no, the entire series- Mass Effect 2 truly felt like our very own adventure through the galaxy.

Importing our save from Mass Effect made the experience even better. All the decisions we had made in the first game carried over to the second, and they were given a lot of importance, making a game played with an ME1 save file an entirely different, and a much better, experience.

Mass Effect 2- the best game on the Xbox 360.

The sequel also improved on all other mistakes from the first game. Vehicle riding was removed altogether, and so was the inventory. Leveling up and the menus were made more streamlined. Galaxy exploration became easier, and as I mentioned before, the shooting became perfect.

The highlight of the game, however, was none of this- it was the story and the characters. Mass Effect 2 featured a brilliant sci-fi story that blew us all away with every new step, every new twist and turn. It felt like a true feature film with a dramatic story. However, the story wouldn’t have been half as good if it weren’t for the characters involved in it.

Character progressions had never been as good in any game as it was in Mass Effect 2. ME2 revolved around building our team and gaining their loyalty for a suicide mission. If the team members aren’t loyal to Commander Shepard, humanity’s fate is all but doomed. This worked out better in ME2 than we could have imagined. With each character having two missions devoted just to him/herself, every single member in our team is developed brilliantly. Some characters stuck in our memories for a long time, including the likes of the Salarian scientist Mordin Solus, or the Drell assassin, Thane Krios, or the tank bred Krogan, Grunt.

The dialogue was crisp, the dialogue choices unforgettable, and every moment in the game was something that would stay with us for a long time.

It all came together to deliver what was a brilliant experience, and the best Xbox 360 gamewe have played till now. Mass Effect 2 is an unforgettable game, and does everything it does perfectly, except for the planet scanning, which wasn’t a big issue anyway.

And now, BioWare are ready to deliver Mass Effect 3. Is it going to be as good as we all want it to be? Can it really live up to the awesome Mass Effect 2? Or can it do the impossible, and actually outdo its predecessor? We have not seen much till now, but from what we have seen, Mass Effect 3 looks epic. At the same time, a lot of things are bothering us, which make us think that ME3 might not quite be the game we want it to be.

[HTML2]

There are several reasons- as we have stated before, BioWare are currently working on three games, and were working on four some time ago (Mass Effect 2 PS3). And all three of their games, namely Dragon Age II, Star Wars: The Old Republic and Mass Effect 3, are huge titles, so they will be concentrating equally on each of them. Not just this- they’ve also been working on add-on and downloadable content for Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2. Does this mean that Mass Effect 3’s quality will be diluted in the process?

They also said that Mass Effect 3 is built on a new engine. And they developed this new engine and the entire Mass Effect 3 in just two years? Will it be developed in time for its Fall 2011 release date? Or will they rush it, screw it up, and release it on the date no matter what? Or will they delay the project after all?

And if they do make it in time for the Fall release, and not mess up the game (somehow), they’ll have a lot to live up to. It’s a monumental job, developing a sequel to a game like Mass Effect 2. Not only do they have to improve upon the few mistakes of the second game, they also have to introduce some new stuff to keep things fresh, and to have as much impact.

There are several things we want Mass Effect 3 to do and not do. First of all, by the looks of it, majority of the game will be set on Earth. I hope the phrase “looks can be deceiving” means something here. If BioWare go the Halo 3 way, and set Mass Effect 3 completely on Earth, or even for the majority of the game, they will have raised a lot of eyebrows. Mass Effect 1 and 2 felt epic because of how expansive they were- they featured an entire Galaxy, and we were free to traverse any planet, any cluster we liked. If that isn’t involved in Mass Effect 3, it’ll be a series downer.

We want BioWare to retain the Third Person Shooting and the brilliant cover mechanics, but we also want them to introduce a few more Role Playing elements. We want ME3 to be something like a cross between Mass Effect 1 and 2.

There are a lot of things that we want in Mass Effect 3. We listed them out in our feature some time ago, so be sure to check it out here.

But it’s BioWare after all, and they cannot mess up. Especially a game like Mass Effect. But we don’t that yet, do we? We’ll just have to wait a year more to find that out.

What do you expect from Mass Effect 3? Do you think it’ll be better than Mass Effect 2? Will it truly be BioWare’s best yet? Or will it be a huge disappointment? Can BioWare overcome the trilogy curse, somehow? Tell us what you think in your comments below.

Call of Duty Black Ops 3 is just a few hours away from release but there are still somethings you can learn about the game before you get your hands on it. The game is being released with a rather star studded livestreambut before the game hits store shelves, you can check out one of its most popular game modes and a big time weapon that is going to be pretty popular all on its own. A brand new video shows off what’s being called a “wonder weapon” because of its ability to kick a little butt when going against the shambling dead.

The weapon is one that can be found right in the game, so this isn’t something you have to pony up extra cash for, or what for some more DLC to drop. Of course, it’s not sitting out there in the open, just waiting to be plucked up. You will need to be able to find it, but once you do find it you will be able to kick some serious undead butt. The video, posted by Arekkz gaming shows you just how big time this weapon actually is when you’re in combat.

If you’re lucky enough to get the mystery box that has this weapon in it, you’ll be plenty happy. You’ll also be able to go through the entire story mode with a weapon that certainly stands out in the game as well as this particular mode. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 launches on November 6, 2015.

This Video Developer Diary for ‘Operation Flashpoint: Red River’ shows all the explosive footage and explains what is different from Dragon Rising , their last game.  Once again the next game takes place in a real place.  They said a lot of changes have been made and they have listened to the community as well as being able to take on the largest military in the world, the PLA.  The game will be out later this year for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and, PC.

Adam Parsons is joined by Creative Director Sion Lenton, Lead Artist Mike Smith and Principal Game Designer Tim Browne as they discuss the wide-ranging ways in which the game engine and gameplay has evolved and improved on 2009’s million-plus seller Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising™. Topics covered include the huge game world of Tajikistan, new insurgent enemies, improved gun play mechanics, immersive narrative, the new class-based Fireteam and player loadouts and customisations.

The developer diary features explosive footage of the game in action, including the devastating effects of JDAM airstrikes. Marines are shown engaging insurgent enemies at close quarters, clearing them out of towns and villages and hunting them down in mountains. The overwhelming conventional might of the Chinese PLA is also shown with state of the art equipment, including the tanks and helicopters that make them such a formidable foe. The footage shows off the new setting of Tajikistan with its epic vistas and huge open landscapes which present unique and evolving tactical challenges as players are tasked with achieving objectives on their own initiative.

We haven’t heard much about Dambuster Studios’ Homefront: The Revolution in a while but at last glance, the technology behind the game definitely impressed us. Speaking to WCCF Tech, senior narrative designer C.J. Kershner talked about some of the cooler weather effects we’ll see, like puddles dynamically drying up as the sun comes out.

“There are puddles that form in the street and then when the sun comes out those puddles slowly dry up.” It’s an interesting touch especially as Kershner admitted that it has “absolutely no gameplay value” and that it’s “hard to encourage players to just stand there and watch water evaporating”.

However, when it comes to fully realizing the city of Philadelphia, it’s invaluable. “But it’s one of those little touches that we’ve added that really makes the city feel very vibrant and dynamic and alive.

“We’ve also got a lot of other interesting things going on with our rendering, with our particle system; the goal is that every time a player enters an area, whether it’s day, whether it’s night, whether it’s raining or it’s foggy or clear, you get a very interesting and visually arresting scene as your playground.”

Homefront: The Revolution is out in 2016 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

More delay news, hooray! This time, Take Two Interactive took the chance to announce during its earnings report for the quarter ending on September 30th that Gearbox Software’s Battleborn has been delayed. This is the MOBA/FPS hybrid featuring 25 playable heroes along with co-op, campaign and competitive multiplayer modes from the minds behind Borderlands.

Originally slated to release on February 9th 2016, the publisher announced that Battleborn would release on May 3rd. There wasn’t much reason given for the delay aside from Take Two wanting Gearbox to “full realize [its] creative vision.”

Currently, closed technical tests are on-going for Battleborn and it will have a public beta in early 2016 for PS4, PC and Xbox One (though this will come to PS4 first). Battleborn isn’t the first major title to see such delays – Mirror’s Edge Catalyst was originally slated to release in February 2016 but will now be out in May. What are your thoughts on Battleborn’s delay? Let us know in the comments.

These little bad boys pack a punch.  Right away I want to point out that these are digital stereo headsets, so you won’t be getting any 5.1 Dolby Digital sound.  But I can let that stop how much I love these things on top of the fact that Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound is great for a speaker system but in my opinion can feel like too much when they are packed into a headset.  The best part about the NOX Headset is that they are small but as soon as you put them on, even with out any sound playing it’s hard to hear things going on around you, which is hard to pull off with such a small headset.  As an added feature you can also get your own personally embroidered NOX Dog Tags also.

These headset can be used with you Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC, iPod, iPhone and other portable devices.  You also can let the size fool you as these bad boys can get loud, I mean easily blowout your ear drums loud.  All this in a headset that weighs less than half a pound (0.30 pounds to be exact).  For the headsets to be used with the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 you must make sure your get the Specialist Bundle, which can also be purchased separately.  They come with a case that is super small  as the headsets fold up and make it easy to travel with.  Even without the case, while not as protected, I could literally fold these up and put them in my pocket.

The headset has a flexible boom microphone that can re-tract right back into the headset making them nearly invisible which is nice if you just want to listen while your gaming or using an iPod, etc.  You can bring this great quality bad boys with you anywhere making it easy to use Skype or other computer software requiring a mic.  Another great thing about the NOX Specialist is that they are very comfortable even after wearing them for a long period of time.  Something that I can say the same for headsets that are  Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound as well as traveling with headsets with that feature.

One thing that was a small pain in the ass was getting the headset hooked up as well as properly working with the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.  They are wired which is bottom line a  personal preference in my opinion as oppose to a wireless headset, but you will use a USB port to power it and an optical cable that usually can’t even be used on some Xbox 360’s while using an HDMI cable, forcing you to use an HDMI component cable.  After some quick thinking and using some older Xbox components I did actual manage to set it up using an HDMI cable simultaneously with the optical cable with the NOX Specialist.  Now you have to mess with you audio settings on you console or PC making sure it is setup for Digital Stereo.  The other downside is that there are no separate controls for the voice chat volume and game volume your hear, although you can move the volume dial in different directions to controls this, just to simply change the volume settings on your console or PC to get it to where you are satisfied.  So these are all issues that although inconvenient they can be tweaked to your liking.

Aside from those minor issues the only thing that differs from other gaming headsets is that it does not have Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound, which to be fair many other gaming headsets don’t have.  Now the digital stereo quality of the NOX Specialist is excellent, once again with such a small size is very impressive.  The headset has two custom 26mm Mylar drivers providing high quality bass and volume that you will never want to crank to the top unless to never want to hear anything for the rest of your life.  That is a good thing having that kind of range as well as quality.  You can even choose the NOX Specialist in different colors as well.  Once you know how to setup the headset to your devices they are easy to switch back and forth. For an all around headset these bad boys are something you are really going to want especially if you travel. on top of the fact that buying other headsets restricts you to a certain console, platform, etc. I would high recommend this headset to anyone regardless of any of these factors.

NOX Specialist Headset Bundle Including All of the Below Retail Price: $99.99

Specialist Headset Retail Price: $79.99

Sensitivity: 104 dBSPL @ 1 kHz

THE GOOD

Small, compact including clam-shell case that pack a powerful punch with high quality digital stereo sound. You can use them with virtually any platform, Xbox 360, PS3, PC, iPod, iPhone amd more.

THE BAD

Digital Stereo and no 5.2 Dolby Digital Surround Sound. Can be a pain setting up to consoles/PC for the first time and adjusting settings to your likings.

Final Verdict

Great headset that are super compact and comfortable that pack a mean sound that is impressive in it digital stereo quality. Being compatible with Xbox 360, PS3, PC, iPod, iPhone and more with its optical cable input with the Negotiator Adapter or 3.5mm standard jack.

Ubisoft’s revival of their Rainbow Six tactical shooter franchise, Rainbow Six Siege, will be getting  substantial amount of free content for a full year after its launch, Ubisoft announced today. “”Our vision was not a game that you’d play through and “beat,” but something you’d regularly come back to. In order to do that, we’ll be actively supporting Rainbow Six Siege with gameplay balancing and tweaks (plus detailed patch notes), events and competitions, and four major content releases with no paywall on gameplay content,” they said.

Over the course of a year, new content will come in the form of “seasons” that coincide with ranked gameplay. Over the course of the year Ubisoft will be releasing:

4 new maps (playable on both online multiplayer and Terrorist Hunt) 8 new operators, with new primary/secondary weapons and unique Gadget New cosmetic items New game modes, events and/or activities

Ubisoft also confirmed that the game will, in fact, have microtransactions in the form of R6 credits. However, in good news, it appears as though Ubisoft will be showing some restraint with how they implement them (unlike the REQ system in Halo 5: Guardians, which remains questionable in its implementation. The only new content that will be available exclusively by purchase will be a small number of premium weapon skins that are purely aesthetic and have no impact on gameplay. “For an online, competitive multiplayer game it’s imperative that we don’t create a divide in the community or introduce “pay to win” mechanics,” Ubisoft said about the microtransactions. “By doing it this way, we hope to keep our community united and engaged over the long term.”

These microtransactions, however, can be used to purchase items beyond just cosmetic items too- You’ll earn Renown for just about everything you do in Rainbow Six Siege, like completing Situations and Terrorist Hunt games, or competing in Online Multiplayer matches. This will be the base currency that you’ll use to progress through the game. You can use it to unlock operators, weapons and weapon skins. Renown can also be used to unlock post-launch gameplay content. Renown is entirely skill based, and can be used to purchase all but the cosmetic items in game, and also unlock specific post launch content.

With that said, if you would rather skip the entire grinding, you can outright purchase Renown using Renown Booster packs, bought with R6 credits. There will be 5 packages available at launch (600, 1200, 2670, 4920, 7560 R6 Credits), with the higher value bundles offering more R6 Credits per pound.

I’m not sure I’m happy with the microtransactions being used to bypass the skill ceiling in the first place, but on the whole, I am happy about the free post launch content, as well as the microtransactions primarily being reserved for cosmetic items. Hopefully, the game is balanced enough to foster a long term community of players.

Rainbow Six: Siege launches for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC in December.

If it bleeds.. well you know.

We got the chance to preview Brink in my hometown of NYC, which was a pleasure in itself, but since the core gameplay I got to take part in at last years E3, Brink has come a long way.  First off the character customization was so in-depth, you could spend hours changing your skin tone, voice/accent, tattoos, physical attributes and much more.  Simply picking the head on your character will give you the option to change your accent, facial hair, face paint, facial tattoos, facial scars, face gear(masks), hair or head gear.  This goes on for each area of the body giving you the ability to change Jackets, Colors, Body Tattoos, Shirts, Pants and the assortment is huge!  Even with Archetype you can change your look, skin, nose, etc.  That customization also extends itself to the weapons with the ability to have custom skins on your guns as well as choosing specific attachments for each weapon.

There were literally tons of features that I got to see that I have never seen before, for instance one that stood out the most were the ‘controller presets’ to other first-person shooters.  Instead of giving you different control setups, Brink actually lets you choose presets such as Call of Duty, Counter Strike and many more, so you can quickly pick the shooter you like the controls the best in and pick that preset, then your done.  Of course you are not limited to the presets as you can customize the controls exactly how you want them.

Brink and it’s drop-in/drop-out 8 player co-op draws you away from just wanting to stick to one class as there are four different ones.  You can simply find a near by hub that lets you change your class depending on the situation at hand.  There is the Engineer, Medic, Soldier and Operative.  You can level up and gain abilities that are specific to each class as well as ones that are in place no matter what class you play as.  I did notice a ‘Buy abilities’ tab leading me to believe you use XP to get them, but don’t quote on that as our time was limited during the event.  I played as a Medic quite a bit as I was able to heal myself on the go and getting near downed team mates I could toss them a epipad/ syringe and the cool thing about this is that the downed player does not have to use the syringe I through to him to get back up as he has a choice to also re-spawn at our base.  This can be for a number of reasons.

As you can see the customization is endless.

Our main mission of many different ones, was to escort our tank to a designated area while we played against the AI trying to slow us down by damaging the tank and killing us so no one can be there to escort the tank halting it.  There are also side tasks each class might have for instance, I switched to my soldier class to learn that I could set a charge in a area that would give our team a short cut back to the tank we had escorted a ways up, after re-spawning at our base, giving us a nice advantage.  As soon as I switch back to a medic I see an AI Engineer patching up the shortcut I just made!  His life ended quickly.  The Engineer is also the one who must repair the tank if it has taken too much damage in this mission.  So this leaves me from wanting to switch from class to class doing side tasks to help the team rather than sticking to one class and one class alone.

There are also Challenges in the game that are separate from your normal unlocks.  These challenges give you much more rewarding things.  In each challenge you can unlock three stars with each star unlocking something new.  Now Splash Damage went about a little differently as that third star might be the hardest to unlock but it might not be the best item, so players don’t have to be limited to getting all the cool stuff based on their skill.  These challenges are also tracked on a friends only leaderboard.  One example of a Challenge called “Parkour This” which requires you you to race around check points as a light body type.  All these awesome features in the game, but by far one of the coolest things is SMART system which allows you to flow over object jumping and sliding making you feel like Spiderman.  Just pressing the button won’t bring you to a halt in any situation, getting you into places fast when you need to be and out of places quickly when your in trouble.

Fighting In The War Room

Publisher:     Bethesda Softworks
Developer:    Splash Damage
Release Date:    May 20th
Platform:    Games for Windows / Xbox 360 / PlayStation®3 system
Genre:    First Person Shooter
Description:
Brink is an immersive first-person shooter that blends single-player, co-op, and multiplayer gameplay into one seamless experience, allowing you to develop your character whether playing alone, with your friends, or against others online. You decide the combat role you want to assume in the world of Brink as you fight to save yourself and mankind’s last refuge. Brink offers a compelling mix of dynamic battlefields, extensive customization options, and an innovative control system that will keep you coming back for more.

Story:
Brink takes place on the Ark, a man-made floating city that is on the brink of all-out civil war. Originally built as an experimental, self-sufficient and 100% “green” habitat, the reported rapid rise of the Earth’s oceans has forced the Ark to become home to not only the original founders and their descendants but also to thousands of refugees. With tensions between the two groups growing, Security and Resistance forces are locked in a heated battle for control of the Ark. Which side will you choose?

Not Just Another Hero
– Brink’s advanced player customization offers a near-endless combination of looks for your character – allowing for the appearance of your character to be truly unique.  As you progress through the game and acquire more experience, you’ll have even more opportunities for customization.
Two Sides to Every Story – Choose to fight through the single player campaign as either a member of the Resistance or the Security and then take your same character online to play cooperatively or competitively against other players.
Blurring the Lines – Take your unique character online at any time you choose!  Brink allows you to seamlessly move between your single player campaign, co-op with friends, and intense multiplayer action. Multiplayer takes the story online where you can play with up to seven other people (or AI characters) cooperatively as you take on the opposing faction or with up to 16 players competitively.
Play SMART – Brink uses the familiar shooter controls that you’re used to, without frustrating, artificial constraints and adds a new feature: the SMART button.  When you press the SMART button, the game dynamically evaluates where you’re trying to get to, and makes it happen. Whether you’re a seasoned FPS veteran or someone just getting started, you’ll be able to make more intelligent decisions during the fast-paced action with SMART.
Context-Sensitive Goals and Rewards – Objectives, communications, missions, and inventory selection are all dynamically generated based on your role, your condition, your location, your squad-mates, and the overall status of the battle in all gameplay modes.  You’ll always know exactly where to go, what to do when you get there, and what your reward will be for success.

Fans of Call of Duty, rejoice- the Prestige emblems for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 have been revealed, and they look pretty badass. Treyarch Studio Design Director David Vonderhaar has confirmed via Twitterthat Black Ops 3 will have “55 levels; 10 levels of Prestige” and teased that the team also has “plans for something after (that isn’t more Prestige levels.)”

Meanwhile, all ten Prestige emblems are available to view below in the gallery, as well as the Master Prestige emblem. They’d look pretty good, and are certainly a good motivator to keep investing time into the game’s revamped and excellent seeming multiplayer mode.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 is almost here- it launches this Friday, November 6, for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, with pared back versions, featuring a lower framerate, lower resolution graphics, and a lack of a single player campaign mode, also being made available for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on the same day.

Those who have seen the new trailerfor the first piece of Star Wars: Battlefront DLC are likely pretty excited the game is coming in just a few weeks. Those who are thinking about thinking or have already purchased the game’s DLC season pass should be plenty excited as well. That excitement stems from the recent announcement that detailed what people can expect when they purchase the DLC or the DLC season pack.

Electronic Arts’ Chief Operating Officer (COO) Peter Moore talked about what EA and DICE are going to be offering in a recent earnings call. While the game centers around the first three movies that were released, the DLC is going to be bringing some aspects from the prequel trilogy and Moore seemed to hint there will eventually be some stuff from the newest films. “What we’ve announced is four extra packs over the next 12-18 months coming post launch. You’ll see new universes, you’re gonna see new player actions, obviously new weaponry as well.” Moore said on the call.

Moore added that the company has seen some sales projections that have EA and DICE quite excited for the future, though he added he and his cohorts don’t want to get too cocky when it comes to how popular the game is going to be. The first piece of DLC, The Battle of Jakku has just been announced as a piece of DLC that will be free to everyone though people who preordered the game will get it first. Star Wars: Battlefront is due out on November 17, 2015.

Most of the content in this trailer was revealed at the Spike Video Game Awards (VGA’s).  This is an extended trailer shown at this years Game Developers Conference (GDC) that adds a little more to a sequel that is bound to do well.  In the original Prototype I saw some of the best game mechanics I have ever played with that were so user friendly as well as ground breaking.  Hopefully the sequel will bring that aspect back along with a killer story behind.  ‘To kill a monster.. you must become one’ as the trailer shows us some story as well as some of the creators ideas when making the game.  Expect Prototype 2 to be out sometime next year for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.

Despite the fact that Bethesda has never confirmed it is even working on an Elder Scrolls 6 or a Skyrim 2, we would be pretty naive if we thought the game wasn’t going to be made at some point. the series and Skyrim in particular has simply been too popular to think the company would come anywhere close to leaving it in the dust. This is still the case despite the fact Elder Scrolls Online didn’t meet with the commercial success the firm hoped.

That’s why we’ve been busy over the last couple of months trying to guess at what we think is in the game, what should be in the game and what we definitely don’t want to see. One thing we would definitely like to see added to the game would be an immersive and fun to play gameplay mechanics like intriguing boss battles. It’s not like this kind of feature is unheard of in games like this. There are plenty of adventure, open world games that are made that much better when people are able to fight against a daunting boss.

This becomes even more fun when you can do it with a buddy by your side. It doesn’t matter whether or not this is couch co-op or online, this a feature that should be in the game. If Bethesda chose to offer boss battles with co-op support, it could turn out into something unique. We’ll just have to wait and see if the company will eventually agree.

This article is part of our weekly series on Bethesda’s next big entry into the world of The Elder Scrolls. Through this series we take a look at the possible new features that Bethesda can add into the next The Elder Scrolls game, based on what they implemented in the previous entries and player feedback.

With just over a week to go until Fallout 4 is finally released to the public, people who worked on the game seem to be just as excited for its launch as those who just want to play it. This was underlined by a recent interview with one of the voice actors in the game, Courtenay Taylor recently talked about the work Bethesda put into making this game and how impressed she was working with the development team.

“I’m thrilled and excited to have it come out and I’m proud of what small contribution we’ve made and I know the amount of work that everybody at Bethesda put into the game. No stone has been left unturned and it’s gonna be an amazing ride for everybody. I know people are gonna love it,” Taylor told ThoseGamers. “People” are certainly hoping they end up loving the game, and so far all the news coming out about the game has been only positive.

One other positive piece of news about the game is that Bethesda isn’t going to be anything close to paid mods when this title launches. How do we know this? Bethesda managed to make sure there aren’t going to be any people who will be able to make any money off of mods. A user on Redditwas one of the first to find out that Bethesda has actually put the statement that all mods for the game must remain free of charge in the game’s EULA on Steam. This is good news for those who like using mods, even if it’s not clear where those modscan be used yet. Fallout 4 is launching on November 10, 2015.

We recently got a chance to preview and play Hunted: The Demon’s Forge in NYC, my favorite place I might add for a Bethesda event.  The event is where we also got a chance to play as well as preview and interviewwith the development team for Brink.  We were super impressed with Hunted: The Demo’s Forge though and its co-op intense gameplay.  The game is a dark fantasy, action RPG that uses the Unreal engine to make this a graphically pleasant third-person game.  Playing as either E’lara, a ranged weapon expert, or Caddoc, a master swordsman, you must journey on a dark path to learn why innocent villagers have been disappearing in a world where the dark ages have brought evil creatures from the underground.

Starting off, we entered the tutorial part of the game where we learned the basics of the game.  There is a guidance system to keep you on track similar to the one in the Fable sequels, as with the click of the joystick shot out a gold trail through the air showing the way to next destination or current mission objective.  You can switch between ranged and melee weaponry with the touch of a button.  There is also a simple two button combo system making the gameplay mechanics very easy and user friendly even when it involves magic or spells which both characters can do.  The movement and cover system was very reminiscent of Gears of War in the best way possible.

Jumping out of the tutorial and into our first mission, was what put me and my partner together that I played with.  The nice thing about this 2 player co-op is that you don’t always have to play as a certain character, as the developers have creatively made obelisks every so often where you can switch to the other character as will your partner do to, if you both choose to.  I thought that aspect alone was a unique feature that really made the game more interesting especially since each character has their own separate abilities they must use for the game to progress.  However that is far from the peek of the innovation we saw in the game when it comes to the co-op aspect.  First of all, Hunted: The Demon’s Forge is heavily based on the co-op and what I mean by that is, you are not simply playing the game along side each other, but you actually need each other most of the time in the game, whether it is to heal your partner or have them use a unique attribute to progress in the game.  The developers, inXile, though were keen enough to make it so that you don’t have to be standing right beside your partner to play the game, although it doesn’t hurt.  You can heal your downed partner from nearly across the map by hurling a magical ball of energy, reviving them.  Many puzzles as well as collecting things can be long distance oriented really adding an edge to the co-op that I have never seen before.

Items are based on your stats, so for example I can do more damage with a certain sword than lets the other character dependent on my stats.  The magic is split into two types, casting and spells while Caddoc can use more general magic, E’lara on the other hand tends to have more arrow based magic capabilities even though both characters carry bow’s.  E’lara has the classic bow while Caddoc uses a crossbow and both ranged weapons require ammo/arrows.  With weapon based magic there is also a battle charge where your magic goes to your partner.

There is a looting system and gold is the general currency in the game.  You can replay cut-scenes to explain a mission again to you.  The enemies range in different types, like heavy, weak or fast while enemies spawn depending on how long you are in an area.  Enemies can either use magic or weaponry against you while there is a class of sub-bosses as well as a fully fledged boss.  Traps can be set on the ground and going back to specific abilities, E’lara can set her arrows on fire with different color flames that are needed to progress in the game or even finding secrets.  There are also challenges in the game that are unlocked by doing things like reviving your partner a number of times.  Unfortunately, in RPG tradition your health does not regenerate and requires health potions you must consume.  The can be drastic environment changes as well as parts of the environment being interactive.

The general graphics during gameplay are very impressive as well as the character detail between their tattoos and clothing.  The armor you wear changes as you progress through different levels.  The lighting effects were well done and the CGI rendered cut-scenes were stunning in addition to them not looking so different from the actual gameplay.  Another cool aspect was that I noticed after being covered in blood from battle, I still wore the blood of my enemies during the following cut-scene.  By far though the co-op intense aspects noted are what I feel will make this game amazing in addition to the 5.1 surround sound optimization and the stunning graphics.  Hunted: The Demon’s Forge is looking good and might just be the co-op game that defines them all.  The game will be out on May 10th, 2011 for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.

Just Cause is going to be one of those titles that get progressively better as they go. For those of you who have been playing since the first Just Cause, you will know exactly what I’m talking about. The changes that were made from first to second game are absolutely astonishing, yet there is still a lot of work to be done. It’s almost easy to assume that by the time we see Just Cause 3 hit store shelves; it will be the best release to date. Some of the things that need to be worked on though, really need a lot of TLC. They are not up to par with the franchises potential thus far. Let’s have a quick look at what has been, what is, and what may come to be, on the island of Panau.

So you are a huge fan of Just Cause and you support the games as much as you can, but still it goes without saying that there are some things that really need to be fixed. The short and skinny of it is that there are technical bugs and a lack of interesting stories. Many of the missions are quite repetitive and it seems now that Panau has been developed completely and looks amazing, we should be seeing a little more attention to detail in the story. We would really like to see something more than just a few of very similar cut scenes that don’t stimulate our interest in the plot. Just Cause 3 should really focus on making a more cinematic style of game, to really get the player into the mood for how amazing of a world you actually get to explore.

Along with the bad, which we will be sinking farther into shortly, there is a lot of things that Just Cause was able to approve upon releasing the second installment. The most noticeable is the island, and overall world. It is absolutely unrivaled in my opinion, to create a world this beautiful and big, takes a lot of time and designing. That could of course explain why it does lack some of the more important features like good writing and depth filled game play. Going from the first to the second game for a lot of things, was a dramatic improvement, some of which are things that probably should have been corrected before the first game was released, like running animations and a bit of a “shotty” aiming system. The amount of explosions was greatly increased and I’m hoping that it’s taken to the next level for JC3.

The world itself is big enough to have fun in just playing around by your self, and there are plenty of other missions and side quests to do. Looking for upgrades and hidden items is always a good way to spend your time. Not to mention that jumping from vehicle to vehicle is just flat impressive. You can literally just repeat the small things that Just Cause got right and have a pretty good time with the game. It would be nice to see some kind of a merger in styles between Just Cause and Grand Theft Auto, because GTA really has a grasp on putting players in a very likable story and sticky situations. Just imagine this giant world but with all of the choices and alternatives that GTA has to offer.

What can we expect to see as an improvement in the world and landscape? This is a really hard question to answer right now; there is room for improvement it’s just difficult to imagine what kind of innovation there will be. Going from JC to JC2 the number of things that could explode was great increased and of course the graphics got a lot better. We are just hoping that by the time JC3 releases there have been even more updates to maybe have destructible buildings or even landscapes. There are some innovations that can be made to the world, as previously stated its just kind of hard to know what they want to go with as they are on the fence of making or breaking the series with good or bad third game.

One of the most impressive things that has been implemented into the Just Cause games it the hook and parachute combo. You are out of your mind if you don’t like traveling around like this. Its pretty awesome being able to grapple around the city, so it’s safe to say that if Avalanche Studios got something right it was this, though it won’t keep the series alive on its own. They really need to step up for the third game. What kind of innovations can we see though? The grappling hook and parachute thing isn’t totally possible; this leaves the door open for all types of not so realistic weapons and features.  Not saying I want to see lasers and jetpacks, but it’s not totally impossible that something of this nature may make its way into the long list of weapons and vehicles.

Speaking of vehicles there has already been a lot of stuff made available for us. Jets and boats, cars, motor bikes, and even monster trucks, it makes the mind ponder what could be coming next. Once again hoping that there is some innovation in the story, there may be new vehicles to look forward to, and hopefully they don’t bring back underwater flying with planes. All jokes aside, it would be nice to see some cool ideas come to life here. There isn’t anything particularly that needs to be added but variety doesn’t hurt.

There are a few patterns that need to be addressed when JC3 comes about. For the most part it’s the buggy game play and the story isn’t quite there. To break these patterns there needs to be a lot of focus on how the game actually feels and make sure that it’s nice and smooth.  Don’t get me wrong JC2 fixed a lot of what was looking terrible, but there is still a whole bunch of room for better physics and animations. Sound has never really been too big of an issue really; most of the voice acting is standard for a B movie, which is typically a hit game.

So overall I think that whenever it may be that Just Cause 3 has an official release date, we can expect to see some pretty big improvements. It’s pretty safe to say that what ever other open world games are around at the time will probably have a lot of competition. There is always Red Dead, GTA, and Assassins Creed. Will Just Cause have what it takes to secure the number one spot? I suppose we will have just to wait and see.  Right now there is no talk about a release date for Just Cause 3.

Star Wars: Battlefront, DICE’s Star Wars action game that launches later this month, is generating a lot of hype and good press because of just how authentic the game looks and sounds- for fans of the Star Wars universe, this game is the closest they can get to living in a galaxy a long time ago, far, far away.

And this newest video for the game, which you can see for yourself below, shows us the various planets that show up in the game- this includes the various iconic locales from the original Star Wars trilogy, such as Hoth, where the Battle for Hoth took place, as well as the upcoming Jakku, which apparently is prominently featured in the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

Star Wars: Battlefront releases on the PS4, Xbox One, and PC on November 17. You can check out what we think of the game in our impressionsfrom its open beta a while back, and you can also stay tuned to GamingBolt for all the latest and greatest coverage on it.

Crystal Dynamics may be known for working only on the Tomb Raider games these days, but not so long ago, they helmed the fan favorite Legacy of Kain action adventure games too- a series that has long been dormant, but has seen its fans clamor for its return for at least as long.

Speaking to Australian website Finder, Michael Brinker, who is senior designer on Rise of the Tomb Raider, said that a new installment in the franchise not as out of the question as its long hiatus would have you believe.

“It’s a 50/50 chance,” he said. “We have in-house developers who really want to make that game. It’s interesting because people look back at our history and our franchises and see that we have some really iconic IPs. So gamers wonder ‘Where are they and what are they doing?’ Well, we’re always tossing around and talking about ideas. It really is 50/50.”

The Legacy of Kain does have a very vocal fanbase, and the games had a unique flavor all of their own- I think I speak for many when I say that a new entry would be greatly appreciated.

EA and Crytek had a multiplayer demo available for a short while and it was indeed fun as well as impressive.  It didn’t last long however, taking it down to that long after that had put it up.  I am not quite sure EA’s reasoning for this other than promotion but hell, I would play some more until the game hits shelves March 25th for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC.  The demo is only available on the Xbox 360 right now but Playstation 3 will get it soon.  You can add it to your instant queue it herecoming in at just over 1 and half gig.

With Fallout 4’s release almost upon us, no doubt many players are looking at just preloading the game onto their consoles, so they can get the messy business of downloading it out of the way as soon as possible, and get down to just playing the game when it launches. Unfortunately for Xbox One players, they may have downloaded the wrong file from the Xbox Live Marketplace by mistake. Fortunately, there is still time for them to fix that mistake.

“If you’ve digitally pre-ordered the game on Xbox One on or before 10/27 and are NOT using Instant On power mode, you may still have an incorrect “stub file” for the title, which is simply a placeholder file. Players that have this particular version of the stub file will be required to delete it, and reinstall the title,” Bethesda said.

Deleting and reinstalling the game requires the following steps:

Navigate to My Games & Apps. Find the title’s tile in Games. With the tile highlighted, press the [Menu] button on your controller. Select Manage Game. In the Manage Game screen, select the storage device the game is currently installed to. Select Uninstall. Once the game has uninstalled, return to My Games & Apps. Scroll right to the “Ready to Install” section under Games. Highlight the title’s tile. Press [A] to select. Choose Install.

And that’s it- you should be good to go after this. And if you pre-ordered and downloaded after October 27, you have the correct file already, so no worries there.

If you pre-ordered Fallout 4: Pip Boy Edition from GAME in the UK, then you may want to follow up with them on that- apparently, they are canceling quite a few of these pre-purchases. A number of users woke up this morning to an email from the retailer informing them that it wasn’t able to charge them their paymentand thus canceled their orders- which has naturally angered a swathe of customers, some of whom had pre-orders dating as far back as June, when the game (and the Collector’s Edition) was originally announced.

It seems the issue is that the payment method that the users had on file with GAME to have their orders processed is having issues going through. Basically, since GAME can’t process the payments, they are unable to process the orders. The users note, however, that the payment methods are all in order, with sufficient funds, and no issues on their end.

It basically seems to be a mess overall- but yes, it seems that even your pre-order isn’t safe any more.

It’s started happening, guys! Fallout 4 leaks are showing up on the internet aplenty, and if you don’t want any information on the game, if you just want to go in blind, then it’s best to just not read anything about Fallout 4 for the next few days- including this news piece. This is your final chance to leave, because after this, there may be spoilers.

Anyway, GameRevolutionposted an image of the in game map, stitched together from disparate screenshots, which apparently shows us what the full game world looks like. It seems to be pretty big, with quite a bit of water, although bizarrely, GameRevolution estimates the game world size to be just 145,800 square feet. A much more accurate estimate of the map size comes from Eggplante, who estimate it to be between 400 million square feet (14.3 square miles) and 1.2 billion square feet (43 square miles).

Fallout 4 launches next week on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Stay tuned.

Bethesda will have Lucy Lawless to lend her voice in Hunted: The Demon’s Forge.

Lawless, who rose to fame through her groundbreaking performance as “Xena: Warrior Princess”, currently stars in the television series, “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena” and recurs on the ABC series “No Ordinary Family”. In addition to these two high-profile roles, she also starred as D’Anna/Number Three in the critically-acclaimed Syfy Channel series “Battlestar Galactica.”

“Hunted is an incredibly dark, intense game and I’m delighted to have the opportunity to work on such a thrilling project,” said Lucy Lawless. “After playing the heroine for so long it’s refreshing to portray such a villainous, seductive temptress!”

Hunted will be available in North America on June 1st and throughout Europe June 3rd on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

I t’s no secret that gamers love the Mass Effect series. Being one of last gen’s best selling series, it revolutionized the way we think and play western RPGs. With Mass Effect Andromeda in development with a release in the near future, it was only right to go over a few features we’d like to see improved upon or fixed completely in the next game of this ongoing series. Many considered them nearly perfect in everyway but we’ve taken an extensive look at each of the three main entries in the series so far and gone over what we would like to see fixed or completely overhauled in Mass Effect Andromeda.

Note: The views expressed in this article are those of the author and do not necessarily represent the views of, and should not be attributed to, GamingBolt as an organization.

Lazy Shooting Mechanics

It’s amazing that an RPG that actually focuses on guns rather than swords has such terrible shooting mechanics during battles. Weapons need to be a main focus going forward. Straighten out the angles, scopes, crosshairs, and precision aim first and foremost. Even if the character doesn’t excel in certain weapon classes, that should not mean the weapon becomes nearly impossible to use.

All PC gamers are well aware of the Total War franchise and the impact it has on PC gaming. Considering the fact that we at GamingBolt.com are huge fans of the series, we decided to sit with community manager Craig Laycock and talk about some of the new features in the game.

Do read it till the end as we touch a lot of points on gameplay, multiplayer and Total War Shogun 3.

GB: With Shogun 2, you have chosen to concentrate on just the Japanese regions, and not other parts of the world, or the entire globe as was the case with Empire. Do you think this might restrict gameplay options a bit, or have an effect at the variety?

Craig Laycock: Quite the opposite! Japan is a beautiful nation. It’s varied in nature, from mountainous terrain to deep valleys, with a gorgeous “art style” of its very own. Add into this the fact that the Sengoku-jidai period of history (which the game covers) was one of such immense upheaval and you have bags and bags of variety on offer.

Think of it this way: we’ve reduced the breadth and increased the depth. By “zooming in” on the 65 or so regions of Japan, we’re letting people roam a huge land, similar in scale to Empire or Napoleon, but with a single goal – to unite Japan and become Shogun, military ruler. It works very well.

GB: Ninjas and Geishas have been confirmed to be in the game. Can we expect some more of these cool surprises in the future?

Craig Laycock: Absolutely – in fact I can reveal some of them to you now. There are a few different types of agent in the game – the idea being that each agent has its own counter-agent. So the ninja has to keep an eye out for the “metsuke” character, which is a kind of secret police agent. He hunts ninjas down for fun.

Each agent type has its own skills tree. That means you can customise your agent to perform a particular role well. I might have a ninja who’s great at assassination and another who’s great at subterfuge. It all adds depth.

GB: It has been reported that the game engine can support upto 56,000 soldiers in a battle at a time. That’s a staggering figure, and pretty impressive to be honest. Will you be utilizing this in the game to provide huge scale battles, where we can literally have an army of 20,000 soldiers?

Craig Laycock: It’s important to note that 56,000 men is the theoretical limit of the engine. Trying to get that many units on screen will likely cause all but the best computers to melt. However, you will be able to get stuck in to some massive battles even on a modest rig. They’re really the hallmark of Total War, so we’ve made them more epic than ever before. You haven’t played a Total War game until you’ve seen some truly huge armies bounding over the hills of Japan.

GB: Please describe what the multiplayer of Shogun 2 will be like. Will there be a definitive campaign in the mix, or just online Random Map battles?

Craig Laycock: The multiplayer in Shogun 2 is massively extensive. Like, hugely. We’ve completely overhauled the multiplayer system, to the extent where it’s barely recognisable. For starters, there’s an “avatar progress map”. You create an avatar, who is your general in the multiplayer, customise his clothing etc, and he becomes your representative in the game. Fighting battles allows you to control regions on a map, which unlocks various perks.

On top of that, you can join a clan and fight in a clan competition on the very same map, except you’re part of a world of clan vying for supremacy. Co-operative multiplayer campaigns are in for the first time (which see you conquer Japan with a friend with shared victory conditions), as well as a whole range of new multiplayer maps. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

GB: We can supposedly indulge in diplomatic and political activities in Shogun 2. How does that work?

Craig Laycock: Yes – in fact we’ve overhauled the diplomacy too. Not only is it smarter than any diplomacy in previous games, it’s now been brought to life with virtual daimyos. As you progress your negotiations, their reactions will inform you as to your chance of succeeding.

The family tree returns for Shogun 2, also, so you’ll be able to get involved with a whole range of political chicanery there too – including giving your children away (yes, really).

GB: Being the game that began the Total War series, of course its old enough to be called “outdated” by now. How drastic will the changes be in Shogun 2? And how many?

Craig Laycock: Shogun 2 is an absolute revolution when you compare it to the original Shogun. We’ve progressed our technology so much in the past ten years that there’s all kinds of cool stuff we’ve been able to implement this time around. Think of it this way: if we could go back to the original Shogun and apply a decade of learning to it, what would we do differently?

The answer is lots, but at its core, Shogun 2 owes a lot to its predecessor. A lot of the guys who work for the studio started out playing the original Shogun, so it’s fair to say its influence on the team is significant.

GB: Shogun: Total War is a decade old game. How do you plan to keep Shogun 2 true to Shogun’s spirit, while also keeping it relevant with the contemporary times?

Craig Laycock: As I mentioned before, keeping true to the spirit of Shogun is important to us. But we’re always looking to push the boundaries, not just of Total War, but of strategy gaming as a whole. If we can make improvements, we do. For example, this time round we’re introducing the whole skills tree RPG system – not just for the sake of it, but because we feel that kind of depth of content truly appeals to Total War fans.

GB: Do you see the Shogun series going anywhere after this? Can we, maybe, expect a Shogun 3 in the coming years?

Craig Laycock: Never say never. No era is off the table as far as Total War is concerned!
